A tunnel like this was also built when 510 Glenwood was under construction. It’s very much appreciated and the city should require this of developers when they interrupt pedestrian infrastructure during construction.
Does it have windows looking out on the construction? I don’t need to see the traffic, I need to see construction!! From a safe and covered viewing point preferably.
I’m delighted by the latest post about the foundation progress, and I agree with @dtraleigh that this project should signal the long transition of the greater Glenwood South area that puts a higher priority on services supporting the residents in Raleigh’s most densely populated neighborhood.
This isn’t to say that entertainment gets wiped out. It’s just a vision of more balance for 18 hour days, 7 days a week, instead of prioritizing 8 total hours of hard core partiers on Friday and Saturday nights.
Really what I’m most looking forward to once this project comes to fruition is a likely boost in interest to develop all the surface lots and 1-2 story buildings between Fayetteville and Glenwood. For too long, developers have only focused larger, taller projects along F-ville and the CBD, but this will be a clear, visual signifier that “downtown” is not just one street!
Snapped this around lunchtime today. Still looks like they’re in the deep foundation phase, so vertical work is probably a bit out. Curious when they’ll shift into the slab/podium stage. I’m guessing January.
How tall do we anticipate this crane to go today? Will it be one that can extend taller as the building goes up? I’d have to imagine… TALLEST BUILDING CONSTRUCTED IN RALEIGH SINCE 2008!!!
