Highwoods in Raleigh

Not bad,   :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Too bad most people will experience the building’s giant parking pedestal at the street level. This is the problem with tall towers. They require giant parking pedestals where there isn’t a transit option.

Yes, exactly. Enough with the rental prisons. People downtown should be afforded the opportunity to buy in.

Sheesh, I quite liked having rentals through my 20s. Not tied down to any city, no mortgage or maintenance to worry about. They’re great for young people, people with jobs that require them to move a lot, or people going through life changes. Most of whom appreciate being downtown versus miles from the places where people work, mingle, and meet.

I did the same thing, except I bought each time and my assets appreciated much faster for me and not my heartless landlord. With each move I had better options and standard of living. But, some people will like having nothing and after all you won’t have any maintenance because you will have nothing to maintain. Sorta like the tin man.

The tin man did need maintenance. He kept rusting and needed the oil can. Just saying…

I meant the heart lol. Either way you pay your mortgage or some one else’s, Should be more more options downtown for people to set deep roots and not be a guest on the cusp of removal when that rent gets to high to pay.

I know we talked about it being a market thing before but there’s gotta be some demand here. Even Durham is getting condo buildings. Really confusing that we haven’t seen at least one come through.

I feel like barely any true mixed-use towers are built in NC. Like yeah they’ll have a bit of retail, but otherwise are usually just office or residential. Trying to remember, other than PNC and 401H are there any towers in Raleigh that have both office and residential? Durham has One City Center and Charlotte has the FNB tower, but I can’t think of any others anywhere in NC.

Agreed on needing more ownership residential…Durham gets a decent amount of condos, Raleigh (and Charlotte) are almost exclusively rentals. I know that in Charlotte, there were several massive condo towers proposed right before 08, but when the economy crashed basically every party involved got completely hosed, and now basically none get built because developers, lenders, and potential condo buyers are extremely cautious about everything. Did anything similar happen in Raleigh?

One of the new ones off of South St will have a bank headquarters.

Yes it did and developers have been spooked ever since.

Soleil Center(RIP) is a good example.
