The old theater is where Raising Canes is going I believe.

Can’t wait to see what happens with 2000 college students living in it.

yeah, the YMCA construction is part of Alexander, I think it’s supposed to be more childcare/children’s programs focused

You’re absolutely right!

It’s a two-part project that will first build the youth center. (seen in the pictures @GucciLittlePig posted)

Once complete, part two will convert the existing youth space within Alexander to studio and gym spaces for the adults.

Alexander is my home gym and i must say, i am not sad to see the kids go . Summer camp season floods the first floor with kiddos. So, building them a designated space separate from the main gym is a win for everyone!

Here’s a link to the project:

Some of my very best childhood memories are from the 2x a week after school program I went to at this Y. In the gym alone I got to learn so many cool pieces of equipment - though much of them poorly. Rings were never really my thing, lol. I am glad they are continuing to offer kids programing.

Of course, you mean the old ā€œthis Yā€ that got torn down to bring us the current one! As each year passes, my memory of the old Y fades just a little bit more.

Yes indeed, the old Y it was, the small parking lot and the car pick up line extending up Hillsboro, lol. This new one looks nice, and I’ve got a brother who works out there regularly and says it is.

My money goes there every month, but I haven’t been there in about a year. It is nice.

Want to join my private gym instead? I’ll charge 10% less than whatever you’re paying at the Y. My gym doesn’t actually exist, but I’ll take your money!

TBJ with the story about the small semi-circle parking lot behind PR with plans to develop into a hotel.

  • 7-story Graduate hotel
  • 0.4-acre development site
  • 49 structured parking spaces
  • Same team that developed the Aloft Raleigh and Paramount condos on Boylan Avenue.

I was in a class a few years ago where this was mentioned. One of the guys referenced wanting to put a rooftop bar/restaurant in that faced the Belltower over the traffic circle. Should be a lot more foot traffic on this stretch of Hillsborough between NCSU’s campus and W Morgan St with the Hub opening soon. Would love to see some additional retail/F&B added to this stretch of the street past Players’ Retreat toward downtown (as well as the end closer to Doak Field).

Some years back, that location was pitched as a condo project. I’m glad to hear that something is being planned for that location. I think it’s a perfect location for a boutique hotel or residential project.

Nice! A Graduate Hotel would work perfectly with NC State there. Fits their M.O. and is good for the area too. I know one was planned sort of near Duke awhile back that didn’t pan out.

WRAL now has a VERY short story since TBJ is behind a paywall. Anyone know if other info online?

ā€œthe working title is the Graduate in a nod to its locationā€¦ā€ is such a lazy, lazy statement.

Graduate is a great brand. This is a great score.

Graduate Hotels by Hilton is a great chain that is tailored to the university nearby. Check out these locations in the US and the UK Look at that Chapel Hill location. I think you will see a lot of Red in this new location LOL.

That seems like a really small lot but I’m going to reserve my judgment until the renderings are being advertised.
