I’d love @HardeesBiscuit to contribute one comment. One thoughtful comment about something Raleigh development related that isn’t just an eyeroll emoji or now clown emoji towards something he thinks is ā€œtoo wokeā€

Wouldn’t mind 99%-inactive users to be booted from the forum if all they contribute is ā€œanti-wokeā€ eyerolls when someone - gasp - points out that there is seemingly a Swastika embedded in a new apartment’s logo design lmaooo

And again - to reiterate- nobody is OFFENDED by this or thinking the developers are secret Nazis lol - just that it IS, objectively, an insane design choice in the United States of America in the year of our lord 2025 (almost 2026). It’s probably an oversight, just an egregious one.

And just in case: @HardeesBiscuit please eyeroll-react this comment if you love hidden Swastikas and want more hidden Swastikas around town! :chess_pawn:

I don’t think the folks that sneak swastikas into things these days like it’s a fun little game are Nazis, technically speaking. There are other types of totalitarian far-right ideology that are more applicable, and in fact the term Nazi may be too kind.

The Nazis, if nothing else, cared about the future of their country. They were wrong about many things but there was at least a motivation behind their movement to try to build something. The modern right couldn’t give less of a damn about America. Their country of allegiance isn’t a nation or a race it’s Google, or Amazon, or Palantir. It’s pure extraction. The nationalism and feigned appeal to culture war stuff is just a thin veneer to get elected.

Dude, that was probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever read in this forum. I’ve been to a concentration camp and saw what actual nazis did to people. To compare your fellow countrymen to them is weak as shit, offensive as fuck, and makes you look like a giant douchebag. Can we get back on topic please?

Is this a Raleigh forum or a Nazi Germany History forum?

Like @OakCityDrone said, let’s get this back on topic. The design stuff about the logo WAS interesting until it stopped being interesting.

I will start. The lack of street level retail in this building is a shortsighted travesty and, frankly, is actually offensive to me

Credit where due - @HardeesBiscuit thumbs downed my comment, instead. Well played, Hardees. Well played

I’m just going to pick up the  going forward. :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Also, I submitted a form at Contact Us | Hub Raleigh asking if it was too late to change their logo. I think this is still on topic since it’s about a sign on Hillsborough?

I sent them one too, but asking them to make the symbol more obvious. :joy:

What is that supposed to mean?

Still copying African hieroglyphic symbols? Thats funny. However, this building is an awesome addition to our urban fabric…

I drove by the former Wells Fargo branch on Hillsborough Street earlier this week, and it has been razed. I couldn’t stop and get a pic, but I’m sure you can imagine a big empty lot with a pile of bricks in the middle.

Here’s a reminder of what’s going there: https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2025/02/25/dogwood-residential-apartments-raleigh-ncstate.html

This is the branch where I opened my first account with them (Wachovia) back in 1986. I still remember my first personal banker’s name too!

My first account was there too - maybe 5th grade - a true pass book savings account. The teller wrote the amounts in there for you- what you deposited or withdrew, and your balance. I remember when it was robbed in the early 70s, by a buck naked guy, who then ran out the front entrance and through all the cash in the air, lol. I always really liked this building. The design connected in my mind the Moravian’s, the Wachoiva tract, and solid, sound banking.

The story about the naked guy makes me

I don’t remember this story, but maybe it was before we moved to Raleigh? Then again, we moved to Raleigh in January of 74 and that was sort of ā€œpeak streakingā€ if I remember correctly. My first bank account was Well Fargo in California, then I had a junior type account at First Citizens because that’s where my parents banked. That converted to a regular account when I went to college, but I switched to Wachovia because I could get a loan there without a co-sign and my parents wouldn’t co-sign for me at First Citizens.

Not Hillsborough St, but Western Blvd… rezoning filed for the Rudino’s lot to 7 floors. Talks of student housing in the application.

Would be sad to lose Rudino’s.
