Holiday Inn and New Indigo Hotel

So the sidewalk improvements will include above the curb protected bike lanes? Or this is just a mistake?

Would be nice. Love that those are starting to catch on, but would seem a bit silly to just have 400’ of them.

Most places I’ve seen them so far though has been tiny stretches like that.

What are these road layouts from? are there plans to change N. Dawson Street?

That’s probably a long term Raleigh streets plan. Probably will be a while before implemented street wide.

Elevations from all 4 directions for those curious:

South / Hillsborough St

East / Dawson St

North / Edenton St

West

Just realized this hotel is going to be L-shaped. Wish there was some height variance since 301 & 400H are both next door, but atleast it won’t look similar to anything else downtown.

These renderings remind me of the hotel at Crabtree Valley Mall and the I-440 Belt-line :disappointed:

If the Advance Auto Parts tower and Pendo building had a baby is the vibe I’m picking up here…

Hope they do something with that blank wall facing Taverna Agora… Lol
Maybe they could work with Smoky Hollow Phase 1 to get murals painted, and get a group rate.

This will be 8 feet shorter and 24 hotel rooms less than the Holiday Inn. It will also look almost identical to the 3 buildings surrounding it.

I guess we can look forward to the sidewalk activation and retail?

And a mostly hidden parking deck, appears to be fully wrapped by hotel. Otherwise HUGE MEH

Pray for good materials, because if they value engineer this one, it’s going to be a a big ole turd.

I also cannot understand the logic behind demo’ing an existing hotel only to build less hotel (???)

More total value since the rooms will be going for much more, plus there’s also apartments and retail. In terms of usage, this is a big win.

Sure, a few less hotel rooms, but adding 350 residential units.

I’m slightly bummed about the quirky Holiday Inn being torn down, but this is a much more intense use of the space. And the Kimpton will likely be by far the nicest hotel downtown.

Nothing against a Holiday Inn, and we certainly need a mix of hotels that cater to different clientele, but the Kimpton will body slam the former in terms of product quality and breadth of services. No comparison. I lament the loss of a vestige from the past, but I think I can stomach the loss of 24 rooms.

The Holiday Inn is listed at 239’ but that is only an estimate based on its number of floors. I think one of us did a measurement via Google Earth a while back and it was much closer to 210’ or so.

Agree. Kimpton has an excellent product and we badly need an actual upscale hotel offering downtown because there are none currently.

Thank you. This hotel will be taller. The holiday inn is NOT 239FT. The wiki has a few things messed up I think.

Indeed, the Holiday Inn is not anywhere near 239’
We’re surveying for 400H and use control points to coordinate ourselves to the job and we use the holiday inn as a reference point and our check in height for that structure is around 210’
Just a little fun fact.
