Large Events and Festivals

Is the Lake Wheeler road construction supposed to start by the 4th? Maybe they just don’t want to deal with the construction around.

Downtown Reno NV along Virginia St wasnt large…but it reminded me of Raleigh’s downtown shows…necks strained as two dueling hotels shot fireworks off the roofs and near shoulder to shoulder in some areas.

That’s actually a good point. I wonder if this is only temporary?

the N&O talked about the disaster that was last year’s show at Dix. Rain, DJ tells folks it cancelled, everyone headed to the transportation to their cars, and then fireworks start. They also had a couple quotes about moving them from DTR proper because of all the new buildings made them difficult to see … So, simplified version where everyone can park close. The wording doesn’t make it clear if it is temporary or not.

I feel like they could have used last year lesson to improve it at Dix park. Like clearly communicate before hand what the plan is in case of rain, in case of thunder and lightning, etc.
Agreed that the whole thing with the DJ and the music was not necessarily needed. As well as the food trucks, not enough of them for the number of attendees so the lines were insanely long.

Feels like a loss to me, hopefully it’s temporary.

When the Canes are done building their fake downtown around the Lenovo Center, the fireworks will be lost forever to that site.

WELP, the fake downtown around Lenovo will be able to get started REAL SOON, because the Canes’ season is OVER. :face_exhaling:

I love the idea of the Lenovo Center fake downtown, but I also think Dix Park is the only appropriate place for the annual fireworks festivities.

Just because they majorly dropped the ball on how they handled the rain and communications last year doesn’t mean they should move it.

The decrease in attendance this year should tell them everything they need to know to move it back next year.

I’m not sure that they will have a decrease in attendance because there are lots of places to park and folks can just watch the fireworks and tailgate.

Someone else made the connection higher in the thread, but HEAVY road construction on Lake Wheeler is slated to begin sometime before July 4th, so this genuinely may just be to avoid insane traffic delays for the fireworks this year.

Yeah which says to me this maybe isn’t a bad idea if the intent is to get the most people able to enjoy the festivities.

Well, let’s see. You can walk there. I suppose that this is a win for you? Frankly, you can probably just sit at home and watch the fireworks.

See my above post about being in NY for this.

Don’t Miss Fourth of July Fireworks!

The City of Raleigh is lighting up the sky once again this Fourth of July. On Friday, July 4, head to the stadium complex around the Lenovo Center and Carter-Finley Stadium for a fireworks-focused celebration the whole family can enjoy.

This year’s event brings the fireworks back to the stadium complex after previous years at Dix Park. The celebration will be all about the show in the sky, with no stage, vendors, or festival activities.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and the fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m.

I will be seeing them in Albany NY and posting pictures to make you all jealous of a what a real downtown looks like. Kidding. But there will probably still be pictures.

Given how stick in the mud we are this year, we will be happy to live through your experiences. Thank you for the offer to travel all that way just for us. :firecracker:

I’ve heard of 2 of the names this year. That’s a marked improvement from previous years. Still don’t know any of their songs, but it’s ok.

Wish they would release single day passes. I’m not paying 160 bucks to see God Speed You!
