John, thanks for your thoughtful review! I am on the planning team for it and it’s always interesting to hear people’s perspectives of the event, especially non-students. It really is a huge undertaking! I’m glad you enjoyed yourself.

Thanks for sharing the photos. I definitely enjoyed myself and will be back in years to come! It helped that the weather cooperated and it wasn’t scorching hot!
Your photos showed the celebratory part of the festival that I largely missed by going home before dark.

Ok, I’ll stop.
HOPSCOTCH WEEK! Festivities start TOMORROW (Wednesday) with free shows at Pour House and Neptunes + a ticketed event (free for Hopscotch VIP holders) at The Rialto. Should be a big week(end) for downtown activity!
I didn’t buy a ticket this year. Any recommendations for day parties?
I’ll start – go see Mellow Swells at the Transfer Co Ballroom at 3:45pm on Friday. They’re sort of an eclectic funk pop jam band. I saw them at the Pour House last week and they killed it
I can legally only recommend the Day Parties I helped organize: Thursday’s “Soup Du Jour, Vol. 2” (1PM-5PM) and Sunday’s “LAST CALL!” (2PM-6PM) at Neptunes
Kings day party on Thursday has legendary Chapel Hill band Pipe, plus Silver Scrolls (featuring two members of legendary Chapel Hill band Polvo).
Pour House day party on Friday has several bands which are appearing at the nighttime wristband shows.
Wolfe & Porter day party on Saturday has more nighttime bands, including Pylon Reenactment Society, featuring the original singer of the Athens band Pylon.
Also, George Huntley (formerly of the Connells) will be appearing at Slims on Friday afternoon and Schoolkids Records on Saturday afternoon.
It’s annoying you can’t buy single day passes for Hopscotch. What’s the logic there? I’d love to see Waxahatchee but can’t go any other day. Anyone ever figured out how to pull that off?
Stand outside City Plaza lmao. You will hear it loud and clear!
I’ve never been. How close can you get?
You can walk all the way down the sidewalk on F-ville st up to Jimmy V’s which is essentially right there
Or get one of the Sheraton rooms which overlook the stage!
Don’t mind me, just plugging a FREE (donations for bands encouraged) show tonight at Neptunes. Hopscotch starts on Wednesdays now.
I wish every night downtown was as busy and lively as Hopscotch weekend !
Hopscotch was outstanding this weekend. Perfect weather, great lineups all around. Here’s a shot from Wednesday’s set in Moore Square Saturday night.
Was really cool to see St. Vincent headline again after so many years - the city has grown a lot since her last headline slot, but one thing is for sure- she LOVES Raleigh. She must have said so at least 3 times throughout the set. Has some sort of musical connection here with her first band.
Hannibal Buress was also in town for a weekend stint at Goodnights but popped up at multiple places during Hopscotch including a surprise standup set at the Moore Sq stage, and a surprise DJ gig at Clockwork last night. Safe to say he loves it here too, at least during Hopscotch.
Apparently he asks Nathan about headlining the comedy stage for Hopscotch but always asks for WAY too much $ so he just books a weekend at Goodnights then just shows up to Hopscotch
Wow, someone I’ve actually heard of!
