That does not belong anywhere near DTRaleigh!!!
TrueâŚ. But what timeline are they pushing for? Is this development imminent or will this proposal theyâve selected now be âstudiedâ for the next 12 years?
I have been told by authoritative sources that without literal oceans of surface parking, suburbanites will never come downtown and businesses are doomed. Better keep them and pave them over just to be safe.
This is the classic development fan defense mechanism or just not getting anyoneâs hopes up.
You forgot to mention the parking MUST be free
Do you want a destination? How about the worldâs biggest free parking lot? People will drive for miles to park here.
Not sure if this has shared: World Cup Watch Party in Moore square
There will be a live viewing of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 matchup, USA vs England, at 2pm on a giant LED screen.
Thereâll also be a soccer skills clinic, the chance to play Knockerball, human foosball, Teqball and giant soccer, arts and crafts, international food trucks and a beer garden!
a) That sounds super fun if the weather holds up.
b) ugh, doing a winter World Cup sucks, this would be amazing in warm weather. At least Argentina and Australia get to enjoy all the usual outdoor activities for once. So thatâs nice for them.
I remember catching a few of the US games from the 2014 World Cup at London Bridge. That place was packed and Iâm sure some of the folks waiting to get in will spill over towards this area
Our team usually sucks and so does Qatar , and Iâm pissed they got it through bribery and corruption. But I do like the World Cup and the event sounds cool, so Iâm torn.
True, downtown businesses must rely mainly on downtown residents and whatever tourists it can muster up. Raleigh needs more of both to get a nice concentrated blend of retail and restaurants in the city core. Get some free parking like at Transfer food hall and the surrounding blocks you can lure some suburbanites or even west side downtowners who do not want to walk in the searing heat or bitter cold. Destination plus easy parking = winner.
Awesome, I will be in town!!!
Raleigh lost the World University Games for the same reason.
For each WC game you watch, you could chip in $_ to a Migrant Workerâs Rights org.
I politely disagree. Check out San Antonio (if youâve never been there). I have visited San Antonio numerous times and never did mind parking in a multi-level garage. To be sure, it has a very wonderful Riverwalk feature that meanders downtown to draw tons of people. Nevertheless, to my point, in the downtown area of San Antonio there is virtually no surface parking (it is nearly all in multi-level garages). What little surface parking there is, it is not free and certainly not cheap either. Downtown Raleigh paid parking is cheap compared to San Antonioâs. Downtown San Antonio is booming with visitors and tourists. I think if we have multi-level parking garages with virtually no surface parking lots weâll be fine.
Might want to check your sarcasm meter
@oakcityyimby I donât get what you are saying.
While it was approved for development it still has to go back to council for a vote to lease. You think that might have a hard time getting through.
Hopefully not, right? There is quite a bit of chatter in local news about the 4 new members in city council and how that may change downtown development. Not sure which way it will tilt now (more pro-development, anti-development or more middle-of-the-road). It will be interesting!
Maybe middle of the road I have my hawks eye on them. They cant complain they have a lot of affordable housing units. That should help the environmentalist cause it density. Mary A Black doesnât have a degree in environmentalism. I trolled her on twitter over it and Iâll continue to troll her.
