Looks like a result of more housing supply. Keep those apartments coming.
Probably wouldn’t be my first choice. I’d probably choose to be closer to GWS since there’s a grocery store there. DGX has some groceries I guess.

After further investigation think these Skyhouse “starting at” rates are teaser units. First eight floors on the south side of the building have parking deck views instead of the horizon views the upper floors enjoy and are differentially priced.
As for the bad reviews, Kane management has been atrocious. Not the living experience it used to be and the vacancies are well earned.
DGX is a handy corner store but not the grocery store option that the Warehouse district and Glenwood South enjoy.
Kane does not own Skyhouse. Just replaced Ram for the property management function.
Yep, I just realized that and deleted my comment lol.
YOU LOVE TO SEE IT! This will happen with more “older” (meaning not brand new) apartment buildings as the now brand new ones are opening up. Rent may not “go down” across the board in Raleigh, but it can begin to stabilize. Very much a good thing.
Is both not an option? We have two Subways within a block of each other. I think this side of town could definitely support a Char-Grill. There’s actually not a great place to get a quick burger in the area (unless you count McDonalds, which I don’t).
Not sure if you had Square Burger, but it was below average. It also usually took forever for them to make your food. I think a burger concept would absolutely crush it here, but they’d need to be both good and fast. Things that Square Burger seriously lacked in.
DGX is just not a grocery store. Good for quick snacks, but I know a lot of people in the area avoid it because there are a ton of panhandlers that hang around the outside of the store. They’ve recently gotten security in the building, but the damage is done in terms of perception for a lot of the local residents.
The Moore Square East development is slated to have a grocery store, and the area desperately needs one with all the residents coming to the area.
Do we know the new vendor?
I’m seeing the same thing in Durham for the first time ever – rents dropped this year at a couple places! Prices for some units at The Atlas (which is one of the newest buildings) are $400 lower than they were a year ago, and basically identical to the preleasing rates pre-pandemic. Looking forward to more of this so all the people bemoaning all the new apartments start to understand that vacancies are in our interest
Well, what do you know? More supply makes our downtowns more affordable. Who would have guessed?
All of Kane and son’s current developments are really going to change the market and help to decrease housing costs even further in a few years.
A bit confused here.
The dates for this RFQ were highlighted as follows:
- Pre-Submittal Conference - Jan 17
- Submittal Due Date and Time - Feb. 9
- Selection Announcement (tentative) - March 8
However, now they’re having an open house for prospective partners. Specifically, it says:
Join us for an Open House on Monday, March 18 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. This event is open to all parties interested in viewing and/or providing feedback on the space before the City of Raleigh posts an RFQ to identify an operator. - Moore Square Café Open House | Raleighnc.gov
So, was the RFQ submitted, or wasn’t it? Did they not get enough applicants originally or did they pull it?
Char Grill in the park would be amazing!
Will be interesting to see if anyone actually submits, given the homeless issues, loitering & the N. Raleigh churches that show up to feed them in the park regularly.
This would be my dream and my nightmare.
So the whole park smells like charcoal and beef?? Walking by it on Hillsborough, fine. In a green space? I’m good lmao
Must finally be my time to shine then
Recently, the city’s mentioned they are planning on spending about $1 million to improve this area and Fayetteville Street, and one idea is to add a permanent dog park in Moore Square. I live really close, just a block and a half away, and walk through there a lot. So, I wanted to share some ideas that I’ve thought about that might make the space even nicer.
I’m all for making Moore Square more comfortable for everyone. Some folks worry that making it nicer might attract more homeless people. I think the idea of making a place less welcoming on purpose isn’t the right approach. We can find better ways to manage the space that’s fair to everyone.
Some of these ideas are more about regulation than about spending ideas, but I think they’re incredibly fair if we want this to be a vibrant space:
Ultimately, the idea is to make the space more comfortable and implement regulations that would prevent the added comfort from being abused. I know many of these thoughts may be controversial, but I think this makes the space better for everyone that wants to use it for the purpose the park was originally intended for. Let me know your thoughts here. Ultimately, some of these would cost money, others would require enforcement.
Not sure if this is the place to do this, but since this is being discussed by the council, I’m tagging @anon8787296 for visibility.
Love these. Make it more comfortable to spend time in, but uncomfortable/impossible to literally camp out in.
Wow, I’ve never thought about the amount of space at Moore square that is essentially roped off.
No offense to my professional homies out there, but that was a really dumb design decision. Compared to moore square as it existed before the renovation, the consultants/designers actually reduced the amount of public green space available to the citizens of downtown Raleigh
