I still can’t figure out where this third crane would go besides the extreme southern part of the site. But I can’t see any evidence of a base at this point from the livestream. :telescope:

Would anyone be able to share the current live stream link? The YouTube stream I was watching earlier has been inactivated. Thanks in advance!

It keeps changing.

@Nickster it was visible earlier on. It’s been covered over. It was the south edge in the center.

My bookmark dies every week or so. :frowning: I keep having to search to find it again.

It’s just bizarre that you allegedly have this information but haven’t leaked the renderings. Good for you I guess. You could go on and tell us more about it so we can stop guessing, even if we can’t see it.

This whole thing is just so goddamn stupid. Who oversees this project, from a State Gov’t perspective? I’d like to email them demanding some form of transparency, considering I and every single one of us in this forum (for the most part) is helping PAY FOR THIS PROJECT.

Speak for yourself. I’m a billionaire so I don’t pay taxes.

Feel like it’s such an indictment on our local media that there hasn’t been a single article (to my knowledge) trying to get to the bottom of such a large public project with 0 public info.

Someone should be able to file a freedom of information request. no?

I have no idea what that entails. Probably paying some lawyers to file some paperwork for you. But local news outlets should have the resources to find this out. That’s literally their job to investigate and report on stuff like this to the public.

A very quick and lazy Google search shows that the actual process is pretty simple:

The form that’s linked to the bottom of that page just asks for:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Whether you’re a part of the media (yes/no)
  • Text description of records you’re seeking
  • Additional file uploads to attach to the request (optional)
  • Name of the department within the UNC System office that you want to have cc’d onto your request (optional)

…so the actual process is pretty simple. But obviously, the “art” of this process is how targeted and specific your request is.

To be fair to our public servants, though, I don’t think it’s fair to assume that this is some grand, gatekeep-y conspiracy that’s only meant to cater to the elite. It’s probably more likely that requests are automatically sent to a couple of (or even just one or two?) overworked desk worker(s) who are stretched thin with too many disparate responsibilities - so they’re forced to prioritize on requests that are more legally or ethically risky to procrastinate on.

This is probably why the website asks you to be as specific as possible: if your request is more targeted, I’d imagine that you’re making the lives of these people easier since they (or other people who they try to milk information out of on your behalf) have a better idea of what you need and where to find 'em. This smells to me like a sort of Hanlon’s razor situation, except that it’s an issue of overwhelmed powers-that-be instead of malicious or incompetent ones.

At least one local news outlet did try and was given the same treatment as everyone here. Not sure how hard they pushed. But the stations do sometimes respond to viewers who reach out with concerns, so going that route could be an option, asking them to dig deeper.

What’s hilarious is that the GA is hosting a webcam on YouTube of this mysterious building. Maybe they just want us to all tune in, and enjoy the surprise.

Had to walk by here too.
Honestly I not really noticed that skybridge before. Plus the only building I would save on lost square.

Installation of the third crane appears to be underway today

They could have stacked this thing up into a 50 story tower if they had wanted to.

I’m still skeptical that this building will only be 8 stories. This is a huge underground parking deck for a building that’s not very tall. Three tower cranes for a project this size seems excessive, but what do I know? I’m hoping they’re being secretive about it and that this will be a banger.

I mean the initial TWO cranes were already absolutely massive for a supposed 8-story building - they tower over the 11-story SECU building as it is… and this 3rd crane is now going to need to be even taller to be able to swing around above those first two…

…I’m almost wondering if the state is keeping the plans for this building under wraps specifically to avoid controversy about building a gigantic tower with taxpayer money (I’m not mad about that, but you just know certain constituents would be)… this is all equally very intriguing and infuriating lmao

EDIT: Though the width of the tower base for the 3rd crane does seem smaller, so perhaps it’ll be a super short boom crane that sits underneath the first two??? I guess we’ll know soon enough…

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s also serving as auxiliary parking for the other government offices in the area.
