Not sure if this is really art, but I have a good Halloween costume for people who like downtown. No one will recognize you.
Oh I know that costume is going to sell out for sure.
Saw that thing in the news. LOL
More like, saw that thing on Facebook.
Needs a Black Rifle Coffee logo on the shirt.
This reminds me… what the hell is that building still doing vacant??? I guess maybe at this point, no point in renovating/reusing until the Nash Apt tower is built (is that still getting built?) since they “have to” demo the Berkley Building next door. But this one has sat vacant for literally as long as I’ve lived in this state (over 16 years now) and it’s so strange to me.
I excitedly walked downtown to see this year’s Illuminate installations.
Well…
The Tunnel was cool but overall meh.
At least I got my daily steps.
I will say from what I’ve seen so far, Raleigh is way behind when it comes to Christmas decorations from what I’ve seen so far. I’ve seen Pullen Park decorated really nice for events, but it appears the Grinch has stolen all the decorations this year.
I did like the animated projection on the building downtown. I’m not sure what that was about (city or private), but overall it definitely added something nice downtown. I still need to walk the entire stretch to see what it looks like overall.
1st Photo: Pullen Park with no lights or anything (taken at 6:48PM during my bike commute home)

North Hills has some decorations, but overall I was not vastly impressed by it (See my photos/post here for photos).
Cary downtown definitely is a place to visit to see lights. If I had visitors this year at this time, I would say that downtown Cary would be one of the spots that I would take people (See my post/photos here).
I plan on looking at The Village to see how it is there. More than like I will link that post here when that happens.
I was at Crabtree yesterday to find parts for a holiday outfit. I may walk over again just to see if there were any other decorations inside. I actually wonder what it would be like if Crabtree was to dim their lights a little bit after dark. (You can see 2 photos from inside Crabtree here)
I have thought about how it would be nice to have a section of the greenway decorated or if there was a paid walking loop. The paid one would be something similar to those where people drive through the Christmas light loop places. The difference is that people would be walking instead. In a way, I feel this is how the Chinese Lantern Festival is. The Rink is something that does charge $6/person, but the photos I’ve seen do not seem promising.
From the looks of this skyline, either we are granting Illuminate commissions way too much artistic license or the space-time continuum has finally collapsed.
Again, meh.
extra characters.
Most people don’t care about the relative geographical accuracy of regional holiday displays. Welcome to enlightenment
The information about this piece (displayed nearby) explains that it’s celebrating landmarks across the Triangle, not just Raleigh.
I’ll will then be glad to take all said credit for the light display this year in nearby Cary. Since we are all one big one happy family here anyway!!
Fair point. But also the end of space-time would crash the universe, giving us other things to worry about besides Durm.
Updates to lights or art in Raleigh.
Downtown Raleigh/Fayetteville St.
Separately I have to say the best lights display I have seen within Raleigh is actually in North Raleigh near Falls Lake Dam. It goes to show that really you just need a huge density of lights to get people to come out. The DT Raleigh Alliance should take note.
While we were out, we stopped by Lafayette village to see if they had any decorations up.
Will update more if I see more.
That looks fun, what street(s) is that?
I believe it’s “Winter Song Rd”.
Thanks for the photos. I am going to walk down to Fayetteville street again this evening to take some more photos and spend some time with that one Illuminate installation that I find engaging (the Tunnel). I’ll see if I can get some interesting photos to share.
In case anyone else (like me) thought to go see this… don’t. I’ve been waiting in a line of cars for over half an hour and have gone less than a half a mile, and still have another half to go
Oof. At that speed pull into a side road, park, and then walk. I guess the word is out. We were able to get up to it quickly last time. We ended up driving through but then ended up parking after so we could actually take our time seeing it.
