I’m an eternal optimist, especially when it comes to Raleigh.

The county populations were already released, so we know what the metro numbers are. The Raleigh-Durham-Cary CSA is 2,079,687. It would have been nearer 2.3M if the OMB hadn’t changed the boundaries of the CSA and given both Harnett and Lee Counties to Fayetteville.

It makes you wonder what they have against our area.

Ain’t that the truth! It’s like the OMB is always statistically pushing back the Triangle every chance it gets. Fun fact, the Triad now has more land area associated with it than the Triangle.

If we find that the estimates for previous years are adjusted upward, it’s certainly possible.

Yeah but that means they’ll should merging of both metro. If it’s that large enough.

See guys we need to make noise to the OMB and put our area back together. They’re trying to ruin out value.

Again protest call the OMB call the Census representative this is a crime!!!

474,069 is the 2019 Census estimate released today. Frankly, this is just a bit higher than I was expecting. :+1:

Some other Triangle numbers:
Durham: 278,993
Cary: 170:282
Chapel Hill: 64,051
Apex: 59,300
Wake Forest: 45,629
Holly Springs: 37,812
Garner: 31,407
Fuquay-Varina: 30,324
Morrisville: 28,846
Clayton: 24,887

Was looking at the data between 2018 and 2019, and holy crap Apex grew a lot. They must have annexed a bunch of land. They are up the most of any municipality in the Triangle at +5448. Raleigh grew faster in 2019 than the previous year and was up +4771.

Wow. Apex on track to beat Chapel Hill. Probably around 70K is when Chapel Hills falls to yet another Wake County city.

Chapel Hill has been very careful about its growth, though, so its slow population growth doesn’t mean the town is falling behind in the region. Between the rural buffer (something more municipalities should pursue, in my opinion) and their high standards for new development, it’s just harder to build there. Apex is just much more eager to sprawl continually outwards.

That is why Chapel Hill is 2nd most expensive place to live in this region (Carrboro is 1st).

Chapel Hill has been a bit of a growth tear lately. In the past year, they added 3063 people. Dunno if that was driven by annexation or not.
Apex was the Triangle growth leader with +5448, which is insane for a one year. That was over 10% growth in a town that was already over 50,000.
Raleigh was second in absolute growth with 4771 (an increase from last year and the first year in many where we reversed the trend of decreasing increases). Durham was 3rd with 4702. Chapel Hill was 4th, and Garner had a surprisingly strong year (5th) with +2549. I knew that it was just a matter of time before people really started discovering Garner’s convenient location.
