View from last night from inside NH.
Just listened to the Transportation Committee and it looks like North Hills rezoning conditions will leave a window open for the City of Raleigh to consider a tower development over the proposed transit center if the rezoning is permitted and the city considers that option.
This is just a temporary sign folks. While building this tower, they cannot have pedestrians walking underneath the cantilevered sections of the tower. They remove the tables after each concrete pour over this section of road as well, itâs just a very active construction zone. When completed, there will be sidewalks along The Circle by the building and up to Lassiter Mill Rd. Sidewalks down to Target would be awesome but Utilities, ROW/buffers, and Renaissance hotel structure makes that impossible.
Agree this is a very busy site - even along Lassiter Mill the sidewalks are or have been closed temporarily. Iâm not worried about future walkability within this portion of North Hills - might not be pretty but sometimes you just easily take escalators down through the parking garage to get to Target, etc.
Highrise to be possibly built along 540@ Capital.
I was up at Triangle Town Center last weekend for the first time in⊠well, perhaps a decade⊠and it actually was quite a bit busier than I expected. The outdoor part is a ghost town but the indoor mall part seemed to be alive and kicking at least.
Raleigh Magazine had a podcast episode on upcoming developments shaping the skyline. They teased some details about The Exchange. Apparently they have a commitment from a âEuropean hotelierâ and are courting a Michelin star restaurant, which would be NCâs first? Sounds like theyâre swinging for the fences here.
Also say they are gonna announce some more Iron Works tenants for November issue FWIW
Should take the North Hills = Raleighâs Buckhead vibes to the next level. Interested to see what restaurant they pick.
Heronâs @ The Umstead is a Michelin star restaurant
EDIT: Fake News
It does not appear to be. Not on their website or Michelinâs.
Herons has been recognized by Food & Wine, Condé Nast Traveler, and Southern Living, in addition to receiving numerous accolades and awards, including five stars from Forbes Travel Guide and Five Diamonds from AAA.
Huh, well I thought it wasâŠ. Is it possible a Michelin star restaurant lose that status for some reason?
Donât believe NC has ever had oneâŠultimately, we have plenty of good ones but not yetâŠ
Yeah, I recently discovered that the Michelin Guide only actually tackles certain areas. When they decide to roll out to a new region, they put together a full guide for it; for example, they just released their first-ever Florida guide this year, and Torontoâs is supposedly coming out this fall.
In other words, if you went to Michelin and said âI know this restaurant in Phoenix that is better than half the restaurants on your guide,â theyâd say âsorry, we donât have a guide there yet, maybe someday.â I guess they have to limit their scope since theyâre so meticulous.
According to Wikipedia, the only US regions they cover currently are Chicago, California, Florida, New York City, and DC. They used to also do Vegas, but it looks like they dropped them.
Florida actually paid Michelin Guide to review their restaurants in two cities. So those stars can be bought apparently. Imagine if they took the money and then recommend nothing.
Yes, Michelin starred restaurants can always lose one of the stars or be eliminated from the list. Apparently the best time to go to a great restaurant is when they go from 3 to 2, because theyâll be trying extra hard to get it back. But regardless, Heronâs I think is on some AAA list so maybe youâre thinking of that? In any event, I didnât know about the regions being part of the Michelin guides, though that does make sense. As someone who just took a tour of maybe 10 Michelin starred restaurants in France and Spain, I donât really think of anything here or in Charlotte comparing. Maybe Heronâs on a good day? No indictment of our restaurants, just not the kind of thing that works here right now.
That area looks like itâs in the floodplain and is very close to the lake? Also the roads look inadequate for that kind of density, plus it looks like thereâs a mine across from the property. I wouldnât live anywhere near there but, thatâs just me.
Man silly me I always thought the Michelin star stuff was more encompassing like the James Beard awards. They literally cover entire regions and thought it would be the same for Michelin too.
Didnât you see Ratatouille?
Michelin only lists restaurants in certain cities. Itâs not always a reflection on how good a restaurant is if itâs not listed. Michelin only rates restaurants in a small number of metros like NYC, Chicago, DC, San Francisco and Los Angeles. More recently Miami was added to the cities list. Donât expect Raleigh to show up anytime soon.
Oka Iâll nominate the Angus Barn to Michelin as crawl out the door
