Raleigh-area Mall / RTP Redevelopments

Great for us in Morrisville too!

Here is the latest where the Six Forks Rd project stands. Iā€™m not sure how we get to a resolution with the voting looking like this.

Damn, too close to call. Letā€™s shelf this and do another 10-20 years of studies, then we can come back to it with the same questions!

At this point, maybe just punt and use the funds for greenways or BRT projects.

Option 6: No new road projects until the homelessness problem is resolved

Ever wondered why North Hills seems immune to the homeless population?

Two things:
-No community support program or building for them to gravitate towards
-The private property aspect allows the right to escort them off the premises using their ā€œno panhandlingā€ rules.

This is a pretty nice picture of The Channel and Tower 5 that I found on Twitter just now:

With how The Channel turned out I think we may see a nice and substantial mural on The Rockway.

Apparently, Bel Harbour has tenants in Miami like Gucci, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue. Weā€™re getting closer to my dream and all the NIMBY and equity activist can cry harder.

I wonder if it will be done in time for the Tree Lighting Ceremony next week. Iā€™d be interested to see it.

I almost canā€™t believe this is the final result after this many years (roughly 12), and however many wasted millions. What would canceling and restarting the project actually look like? How many years? This is insane. Glad I moved out of North Hills and into downtown instead of waiting on some congestion relief from this project. The traffic in the city is north raleigh, north hills, crabtree mall etc. Not downtown, itā€™s nice.

Yeah, this is terrible. Iā€™m not sure what cancel and restart means.
Itā€™s not like one option is clearly detaching from the others. Iā€™m curious what type of conclusion will be drawn with those numbers.

I was wondering what that was when I drove by.

Guaranteed to make the project more expensive and not add any benefit whatsoever.

The city council needs to step in and decide what they want the area to look like in the future: Another Falls of Neuse Rd that has a ton of high speed traffic (for now) that passes schools; Or a more dense bike/pedestrian friendly focus.

The thing I think is crazy is that the New Bern BRT corridor, for example, has an estimated cost of $90M, which is ~$30M less than this project in its current state. While the traffic situation on Six Forks is not good and this would certainly have some sort of an impact in the short-to-medium term, the positive externalities generated by a BRT corridor are so, so much more impactful than whatever traffic alleviation the widening would get us (which, of course, comes with its own issues). Imagine if transit had been planned here from the start!

If this gets cancelled and can be used to somehow speed up the Northern BRT, Iā€™d say thatā€™s a worthy use of the funds.

Actually when this first started getting studied
10 or so years ago, one of the proposals was to widen to 3 lanes each direction, but the extra lane would be for BRT type service. The NIMBYs quickly put an end to that.

But maybe you are rightā€¦. Just cut the losses and then put them money into the northern BRT.

Iā€™d be happy if they just widened the road and moved on. That benefits way, way more people than the few brave souls who want to ride a bike up and down the length of Six Forks. And then study whatever other improvements they want for another million years. Iā€™m fine with any of that being done too, but the low hanging fruit is alleviating the traffic there that spawned this whole project to begin with.
