Well yeah, but once we’re done rising they’ll really have to look out!
DC is a fun town these days. Expensive, but fun.
Cities smaller than Raleigh made that list, so I don’t know what gives?
i grew up in longview gardens in raleigh. it was an acre lot with a creek that ran through a portion of it…another part of the lawn was good for nerf football games and longview was a wonderful bikeable area for youth, or anyone. easy to explore and i guess in the neighborhood 80s was becoming less suburban as stuff was being built beyond with regluarity. 35k in 1980…zillow says the place is over half a million now.
as a raleigh native i can say that is far from the truth in raleighs case. one can always by bike, find a shortcut or route that keeps the bike out of 4 lane traffic. not a commuting solution but safe. before atlantic ave was completed there was a trail thru a wooded area that one could get to six forks from the brentwood area…i rode to krispy kreme from there and also easily from the Longview area prior to that. it was wonderful surburban living. brentwood had a small shopping center with a grocer, shoe repair, dry cleaner, a kings dept store and a radio shack; walkable form some houses, easily bikeable by all and of course super easy by car thru the neighborhood itself. a 6 mile drive down capital for the state employees in the neighborhood. this was late 70s early 80s. i was also riding the bus alone at 8 years old. the drivers knew me and my parents by name.
Not to stray too far off topic, but I stopped in Greenville once a decade ago for lunch, thought it was neat, and filed it in the back of my mind. We went there last year and thought it was great. We’re seeing Jim Jefferies there in May specifically for an excuse to go back for a long weekend. I don’t want to move there or anything, but it’s definitely a hidden gem. Well, hidden in the sense (like you said) that a lot of people seem not to think about it, but not in the hotel prices for when we’re going! It definitely has a lot of the things we all like about Raleigh: a fun, walkable downtown, greenways, breweries, neat restaurants, entertainment, etc. without being a big city.
In the podcast they said there were some funky reasons the numbers came. Out this way and it was the most suspect result lol
“Raleigh-Cary” ← new airport name? Squeaked onto a list. Bloomberg - Are you a robot?
When you grew up there, did people use a different name for the area north of Milburnie? When I moved to Milburnie in 2017 it seemed like people called the general area “East Raleigh” and sometimes “King Charles” with Longview referring to the area closer to New Bern. Specifically the area with this bigger lots and over there. But I have noticed that more and more people are calling everything North of New Bern & East of Raleigh Blvd Longview. Then again the church 2 doors down from me was Longview Methodist (not gone and about 14 homes there). So maybe it was always a term used for the whole area. When I look at the deeds, there is even a more defined Longview Garden original development and Longview Park original development. Which don’t make it up to Milburnie. I also hear Lockwood a good bit for the area around Powell Elementary.
Per capita, Raleigh-Cary sits several places higher on that list. This makes me wonder how a recombined MSA of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill would have performed?
Would Durham drag us down? Hahah probably not. You are right. $ per person (pound per pound) we are doing really well
Notice Charlotte did not make list but Raleigh/Cary (RC)* beat out Atlanta, maybe RC should start comparing to ATL and not Charlotte
- not referring to that Cola drink
yeah…north of milburnie i think wasnt referred to as longview.
Also, a blogger that seems to regret leaving Austin. LOL
I’ve watched a lot of his videos and he seems to go back and forth between the two.
He lives in Holly Springs so I’d probably also regret leaving Austin .
In his video from last year he seemed to be a bit more negative. He talked about having “to go looking for good food”, then proceeded to Torchy’s and ranked it as good food. I’ve only been to Torchy’s once and it was only ok. I wonder what he’ll say in a couple more years.
The video this year seemed to bit a bit more positive so maybe he’s growing to like it more. I’m guessing he moved here because of his wife. He did make a good mention that Raleigh has good proximity for travel which is completely true. I like Raleigh but one of my selling points was the location (close to beach, mountains, bigger cities). Another selling point was similar to his, I guess, which was price.
Guy seems cool so I’m happy he appears to like it a bit more. I’m sure Austin is a great city too.
I think they lived in an apartment in North Hills when he first started vlogging from Raleigh.
He did, and he misses it now that they moved to the burbs. He likes Torchy’s because he had it in Austin.
The suburbs would definitely make you regret leaving Austin. Raleigh needs to work on being an attractive area and only use the suburbs when relevant. Suburbs are different areas and jurisdiction, Austin suburbs don’t know a lot about them except Wet N Wild in Round Rock.
