This is concerning. Raleigh has the highest percentage change year over year on rental rates in the country. I wish the article would have factored in the addition of “luxury” rental buildings downtown that are expensive and inflate numbers that were never there originally.

Fast growing city with very limited multifamily construction, especially in its core. Makes sense.

The worry is that people will take aim at the first part, not the second.

Most people are probably gonna blame “all the new luxury apartments” instead.

Time to take out the special “approved” stamp for housing projects. I’m aware that they won’t but that’s the only rational solution

Raleigh-Cary metro area was the SECOND FASTEST metro in the country. Raleigh’s population went up 11.1%, with the area gaining 144,557 residents between 2016 and 2021.

I wonder how that would be if the triangle was 1 metro area.

It would be lower because the Durham-Chapel Hill MSA consistently grows more slowly.

Sorry, I just meant how many people the Triangle has added in that time. But yes, the ranking would be lower of course.

Sorry for my confusion. That ranking was by percentage growth.

This is one my fave sites. lots of good data that goes back a few decades.
Since the 1990 Census, Raleigh’s MSA has added 907,311 and Durham-Chapel Hill’s MSA has added 271,042.

Per TBJ, “Raleigh” will host the PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) US Masters at the West Cary Diavolo or Eagles Talon course. Purty neat!

Raleigh back on top and NC shows up in a big way!

From RALToday:
Digital travel publication Far & Wide ranked Raleigh No. 1 on its list of the Most Livable Cities in the US. The City of Oaks topped the list (beating Charlotte at No. 2) based on factors like cost of living, bar scene, museums, and outdoor activities.

This is great.

I know a lot of people on this forum aren’t too into the “nice place to live” tag but I was talking to someone recently who moved here from New York and they compared downtown as a stand-alone big city neighborhood. That stuck with me and I really like that comparison.

The Raleigh suburbs are fine, I guess. People like that too. :grimacing:

And this:

The majestic Blue Ridge Mountains are also easily within reach, providing fun outdoor activities at any time of year.

It’s interesting they mention outdoor activities (and specifically states Raleigh isn’t all about the downtown experience) because I feel like what Raleigh really misses and what kind of holds us back is not having a close connection to notable outdoor activities like in cities that are located near water or mountains (Seattle, Denver).

Does a flooded Crabtree Valley Mall not count as a water feature?
