Raleigh In The News around the country/world

Well, it’s indicative of the fact that NC doesn’t have major cities but LOTS of growth in them since the 80s at peak automobile.

There’s almost assuredly a better place to put this, but couldn’t find the right thread. The largest Hindu temple in North America is now in Cary.

Makes sense, enormous Indian population in Cary/Morrisville/Apex area

There’s another big temple under construction right next to Jordan Lake being built too. It’s near the Poplar Point camping grounds entrance off Beaver Creek Road for those familiar with the area

I was watching Indian Matchmaker on Netflix last night (hey, no shade haters!!) and there is a woman from Durham that is featured. I was wondering why the N&O story on her wouldn’t go away, lol.
Any who - they are all meeting at her parents house in Durham, but they show the Raleigh skyline and then Nash Square, lol. I thought everyone here would enjoy Raleigh being used as a stand in for Durham, lol.

Got a kick out of that too. I thought she looked familiar when I first saw her, then as soon as the location popped up I realized we went to high school together. In fairness, I think she lives somewhere near RTP/Brier Creek, so she’s pretty much on the Raleigh/Durham border. I had fun trying to guess the places the dates were shot at

My wife loves that show and we kept thinking the area her townhouse was in looked like some of the new build neighborhoods off 751 near Southpoint. However I’m probably wrong as it has the generic new build look to be placed about anywhere in the Greater Raleigh/Durham area.

Raleigh a museum mecca…“The Smithsonian of the South.”

I don’t think we can quite claim that T-Rex skeleton yet, as it’s not yet on display (they’re still building the new wing it will be housed in, AFAIK). But I do fully anticipate that Raleigh will see a big tourism boom when it opens!

The Raleigh museums are super underrated imo. Especially since they are free general admission.

We watched that too. That furniture store they visited was Furnish This near the Angus Barn

One of HGTV’s most popular shows, Love it or List it, has been filming down here for many, many seasons now. They do montage shots all the time and I feel they’ve shown the shimmering wall in DTR, the bull in DTD, and Jordan Lake for sure in there too.

Yes, I’ve watched that show for a long time, particularly when they moved production down to Greater Raleigh and Durham. They’ve been back in Toronto for a couple years now thanks to the pandemic, but I would expect them back in the area soon, if they aren’t already filming. I love seeing all the shots and trying to figure out the neighborhoods they might be in.

I had no idea they stopped filming down here during the pandemic. I remember seeing some episodes during the pandemic where it looked like they were doing a ‘virtual’ walk through of a home down here in NC and them being elsewhere. With all the home development popping up I’m sure they have multiple more seasons worth of potential houses.

My wife loves that show and a very memorable couple from that show was at the Rise in Brier Creek one time we were there for breakfast.

They finished up one season doing virtual, and then 2 seasons in back in Toronto. Between housing styles and prices you can usually tell when they are in Ontario. One reason they moved down here was prices were far more reasonable in NC!!
