DTR BAR MAKES LIST FOR BEST IN THE COUNTRY. The Triangle is home to several speakeasy-style bars, and two have been named among the best in the country. The mystic of hidden or secret spots draws curious customers in, but two Triangle bars are considered more alluring than most. Watts & Ward in Raleigh and Belltree Cocktail Club in Carrboro both made Yelp’s Top 50 Speakeasy Bars in the U.S. Watts & Ward, which opened in downtown Raleigh in 2017, is named after North Carolina legislation that aimed to spur Prohibition in the state in the early 1900s. The 6,000-square-foot lounge is located on the basement level at 200 S. Blount St. https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2022/09/28/raleigh-carrboror-bars-yelp-best-speakeasies-in-us.html
Funny that the best executed speakeasy (in my opinion) isn’t even listed. Probably because not many people know about it.
And I’m not gonna tell you.
I agree, but there’s a select few that are allowed inside. If were talking about the same speak easy that can smell hot cooked donuts that is.
That would be a speak-not-so-easy.
Another top 10…err…top 5 list for Raleigh.
Money Magazine lists Raleigh #4 this year. Atlanta is #1. I’d love to hear what @atl_transplant thinks of this.
Money Magazine is the OG, they were the first to name us #1 back in 1994.
They were wrong tho. Raleigh was terrible in 1994. Hardly any tall buildings, no shadows… People were dying left and right from all that hot sun!
Omg please. Those deaths were nothing compared to the countless children suffering in the shadows of today’s towers.
Yep, before 2000, being I am a tall blue eyed, pail skin, blond haired boy (in younger days); I had to stay out of DTR; Way to much sun.
Today’s Financial Times has an article about the top US cities for foreign business investment as ranked by FT-Nikkei. Miami tops the list, but Charlotte comes in at #7, Raleigh at #9, Greensboro at #20 and Durham at #23. Raleigh scored 90 out of 100 on workforce talent but lower on other metrics. I don’t have time to summarize the article, so if someone else has a FT subscription and has more time, go for it. Or see if you can find the information from another source.
Raleigh is safer than most! At least according to the latest Wallet Hub rankings with Raleigh at #9.

People love to give antidotes, but my experience the first year I’ve lived here vibes with this. The whole city has felt extremely safe, especially coming from living in the 167th city on this list and spending time in a lot of other 100+ ones lol.
Of course, if you read NextDoor, you’d think we’re basically living in The Purge.
Raleigh is the highest ranked central city of a major metro area. Everyone ranked higher than Raleigh is either a secondary city of a metro area or anchors a pretty small metro.

I’ll remember this next time I see someone driving like an idiot around town
Raleigh is the nation’s best city for driving, website says (cbs17.com)
As someone whose walked a lot downtown, I can say that there are tons of folks who don’t stop before making a right on red. When I cross at an intersection, I always look everywhere including over my shoulder (even when I have the right of way) because I don’t want to get run over.
Looks like the two gems of NC got onto this list for most car-centric cities. However, this is only concerning metro populations >1 million people.
Yeah, I saw this yesterday as his channel is one that I have on bell notice.
I’m not surprised at all by being on this list. The only solace I take from it is that we aren’t Nashville.
Asheville even made his adjusted list as the worst.
NC gotta do better!
