Raleigh needs an attraction!

Till your dictator is a Livable Raleigh person and halts nearly all development.

As long as they have a finger, itā€™ll be fine. Maybe Iā€™ll run.

i hope not thisā€¦All that parking is currently all forest. No thanks.
Whitewater park should be somewhere near the Neuse like Charlotteā€™s is close to their Catawba river

I think the idea behind this is that all that forest is likely to be razed for development, regardlessā€¦ not that Iā€™m happy about that, either.

I went to GoogleMaps in hopes of finding the boundary of Umsteadā€™s thousands of acres, but I canā€™t seem to make maps do that for me. Do we know how much of the forest isnā€™t protected by either Umstead or Schenck Forest? I am just trying to image what could and couldnā€™t be bulldozed.

Yea, I was approaching it like what if we could at least save like half of it and where most of the bike trails are.

I am having a difficult time squaring this circle. How does the Airport own a county park? Did they lease the property to the County?

Yes. Itā€™s airport property.

Kinda sad, it looks like the area available for lease includes where my eagle project from 11 years ago sits.

In case anyone is curious, the Heather Carr Memorial Overlook, along the lake trail, on the peninsula across from the boat ramp. It was a renovation, though to be honest I havenā€™t been back in 10 years so I have no idea how it looks now!

I donā€™t know what would they develop. Maybe some hotels I guess.

Been thinking about this more and simple is definitely the answer.

Phase 1: top of Dix hill to Convention Center expansion. Nearly all over city right-of-way. Can be incorporated into already planned major projects at either end - rather than having to build standalone facilities. 4 minute ride would basically put the Dix Hospital renovation (boutique hotel, restaurants, shops, event space, etc) at the front door of the convention center guests.

Phase 2ā€¦ gets more ambitiousā€¦ adding a one-way loop around Downtown with stops at

  • Union Station (built extending out over the sidewalk from RUS Bus)
  • Glenwood South (platform station over the West St - Lane St intersection)
  • Halifax Mall (platform station over Lane St)
  • 200 block of Wilmington St elevated over the sidewalk
  • And at the Convention Center to also transfer to the out and back Dix gondola line

12 minute round-trip loop, no schedule or waiting, no impact to street level traffic, connects most tourist attractions and connects Dix to more than just the south end of downtown, also connects between the bus stations and can help with ā€˜the last mileā€™ connections from those hubs. Seems like an okay balance of novelty and usefulness (especially for tourists and a convenience for locals). This would also make the downtown big events more feasible and less of a headache (July 4th, Dix Music Festivals, street closure stuff)

This might be unpopular, but I wouldnā€™t mind a development along the water that includes a boardwalk, restaurants, and potential shopping (tourist shops). Given the proposed BRT along 40, you could have a really solid connection from Raleigh and Durham. Thatā€™s not the leasable land, so it looks like that would be out of the question. I donā€™t have high hopes for the leasable land in this area.

Nicely done.

The DTR Economic Development Plan had me thinking of an art fixture to replace the Archdale Building and AI helped with the execution.

Hereā€™s my (semi) less serious contribution for what youā€™ll see as a passenger in that phase 2 gondola making itā€™s way to Halifax Mall station.

Just imagine seeing that thing on the approach into RDU. ā€œIā€™m homeā€

I love :two_hearts: it :+1::two_hearts:
An oak tree :deciduous_tree: somewhere in DTR and that would be visible from miles around would truly be something unique :hugs:

No reason we canā€™t draw inspiration from the Singapore Supertrees.

As long as it or they actually look like (Oak) and other trees :deciduous_tree: :palm_tree: :evergreen_tree: Iā€™m fine with that :+1::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

We can draw inspiration from the stylized oak tree that the city uses in its logo. Thatā€™s the one where half the tree looks organic and the other half looks digital.
