Here’s what Gemini gave me with the prompt to design a water fountain from the City of Raleigh flag
Imagine either of these right where Capital splits into McDowell/Dawson, effectively behind the Long Leaf Inn. Well lit (assuming the city can figure out how to operate outside LED lights) and larger than life!
No gold (bronze is acceptable).
I’ve thought this location would be IDEAL for a large signature fountain for a very long time! ![]()
I’m not sure how much I can like this, but not enough. Can you imagine???
(yes, see the pic above)
Tell me you want to live in the upcoming Disney neighborhood without actually saying it. ![]()
Joking, but this would actually look pretty sick. Imagine visiting Raleigh and arriving at Dix Park by gondola to this thing.
I’m team gondola but without that, just the huge tree at this scale would be more than enough to put us on the map. It’s not a stretch to think a partnership with Disney, given Astoria and their commitment to this market, could help bring this to life.
Even if they built the tree first (that sounds strange to say) they could do some kind of zip line thing from there to the sunflowers on the power poles.

It is strange to say because it’s strange to make a tree when we already have millions of them.
Wow! I really like the enthusiasm but, I think this needs to be downtown. We’re trying to get people in the City - especially downtown! The spot I suggested is screaming for an attraction. It’s located so close to everything, and there’s potential development on the horizon! It would be absolutely crucial to find an Artist who can really create something people will want to come see. Let’s not forget about the plaza - bonus!
Ok people, I’m not gonna let this fountain idea fade away into nothingness! It’s a good idea, it just needs support! Once it’s in place, we’ll wonder why there wasn’t always a fountain on this spot! Do I need to start a petition? Is there no one out there who thinks like me? When’s the next meet-up? I’ll try to attend, and rekindle the fountain enthusiasm! Keep (fountain) Hope Alive!!
I guess you’ll have to pitch it to CityPlat? Or find a different spot?
Did you pitch the idea for Nash square or talk to anyone there? They envision a circular fountain in one of the designs. Maybe that’s the spot.
That beacon? Is that what you are referencing?
Think he meams the viewing platform…
Where is the viewing platform? Is it under that white roof? I’m sorry that I have to ask. I don’t know where to look on the photo.
I believe the photos are from the viewing deck of Buffalo’s awesome art deco city hall. Observation deck is on the 28th floor. Take the elevator to 25 and walk up 3 flights. Yes, I went down a morning rabbit hole, lol. I do nit think Raleigh can do this. The nature amd design of our building make it unfeasable imho
I went up there as a kid with my uncle and only remember enjoying watching the prisoners on a nearby jailhouse rooftop playing basketball LOL
I could see 5 observation towers around the central Raleigh parks as an easy, popular, and recurring activity for locals but also something that becomes a must-do for tourists. Like hotels having their own branded fleets of bikes / e-bikes ready for their guests, guided tours, multiple itineraries for stops along the way to cater to different interests (like highlighting architecture, art/ murals, different foods, beer, history, etc). Painted / branded bike lanes on the roads. Probably hundreds of bikes all over downtown on a nice weekday. Probably thousands on a nice weekend day.
