Raleigh needs an attraction!

OK you gotta chill because you’re getting my hopes up for rollercoasters within a half an hour of us… If you’re wrong, I swear…

I can’t necessarily say it is six flags but I also can’t say it isn’t. It could be like the Disney park in Austin where there were rumors Disney was building a park there and has bought land, but didn’t. Or could be an Apple-like situation where they buy the land through a partner.

I doubt that Six Flags even has a US development division, seeing as they last opened a new-build amusement park 30 years ago. There has been zero investor demand to build new regional amusement parks in the US for a generation; nowadays they’re only built around tourist hubs like Orlando. You might as well be wishing upon a new regional mall.

Corporations do not make half-billion-dollar decisions based on suggestions from random individuals.

…Kinda what I was thinking hahahaha

That LLC is registered to Martin Engel of Norlina, NC as manager, who is also registered agent of North Carolina Farms of Wise. I gotta think any ride there is gonna involve hay bales.

i thought the bikeway to Johnston county was cool when i rode on it. maybe a few more historical markers along the way and slow the nutty bike clubs riding at 30 mph.

30mph??? Who are these world class riders we have hidden in the Triangle? Oh wait; maybe they are going downhill?

I’m unsure where to put this, so feel free to move this somewhere else, but I have a spontaneous question. If possible, can anyone provide an update on the Topgolf that began several years ago? I’m curious about the reasons behind the prolonged delay in its completion.

I assumed it was open by now. You mean the one by Page Rd?

Maybe it’s because they’re intimidated by how close Drive Shack is to my house…

I drive by there several times a week. Just passed by this morning on my way to work. It looks like they are now working on the landscaping in the parking lot. Lot’s of small trees have been planted. I take it that is a sign that they are close to finishing construction.

It does seem like this has been in construction for a long time.

Yes, I was talking about the spot near Page Road. It’s nice to hear that they’re actively working on the landscaping now. Construction began right before the onset of COVID, which is why it’s taken longer than anticipated. However, considering that the pandemic has been over for quite some time, it’s a relief to see progress being made. Thanks!

The real question is when does the Andretti Karting open on Page Rd?

It’s under construction near the regional transit center and airport. Pretty much on Wake/Durham line.

Hadn’t heard about that… surprising they picked a location so close to the new Rush Hour

I just checked and it appears it’s still in paperwork limbo. Here is the latest from Construction Journal:

This will be in the same area as Rush Hour, but they will be offering different tracks and driving.
Rush Hour is more on the serious side while Andretti looks like something from Mario Kart. Here are a few examples:

My understanding is that it was delayed due to stormwater concerns and disagreements with the Town/County of Durham.

Many of the larger lakes around Cary and North Raleigh (Bond, Crabtree, Carpenter, Page/RDU, Lynn, Shelley) were built as flood control for Crabtree Creek under a 1964 plan.

It’s been 60 years since then; flood volumes have further increased due to global warming and urbanization; and at least one of the dams (#25, which would’ve flooded a good chunk of Umstead Park) was never built. So maybe it’s time to study additional flood storage. While looking something else up: in 1990, the Army Corps studied using the Heidelberg quarry on Duraleigh as flood storage for Crabtree Creek.

It would have diverted “5,374 cfs of the total 8,420-cfs discharge” of Crabtree Creek during a 100-year storm. And that’s just one of the two (soon to be 3) quarries adjacent to the creek.

An observation needle in Dix Park. Simple and cool. These were in vogue many decades ago but went out of style. Maybe we could bring it back.

This could actually happen some day. A midtown waterfront district is in Raleigh’s current comp plan.

barring another pro sports franchise, raleigh had some niche entertainment venues decades back, brewery got national acts, the undergorund, charlie goodnights…that attracted interesting stuff. is some ‘leaning tower attraction’ really needed for quality living…people seem to still be moving there in droves without it.
