Ot instead of blowing 1/3 of a billion dollars (it aint going to cost $225) on a boring suburban parking lot arena…redirect those dollars to a new downtown arena…
Like every other hockey market is doing or has done with their arena…

You’re beating a dead horse that has proven will remain dead. It’s not gonna happen, man. Gotta move the conversation forward, here…
And the billions and billions and billions of dollars lost in secondary downtown investment from having a prime entertainment venue in downtown.
Shame on everyone involved.
It’s just gonna take time is there really any space downtown besides Dix Park. I don’t know. Downtown South depending where that goes is a good opportunity there. But the city isn’t pouring resources there, please write to the council you have some great ideas Francisco.
nc central prison site anyone? it’s about time they move the prison to a small town that could use the economic investment and give the city a chance to buy the land
Ingress and egress would be a disaster there imo.
There was a mock up of how baseball would fit there and I laid out a mock street grid and mixed use neighborhood.
Except this new arena is still going to cost $750M more from the start. And frankly, PNC is still to well kept to demolish. A new arena could take decades to start anyway. They have to first find the properties, buy the land, then reroute roadways, and then design the arena. That will take a good couple of years. Then you also have to get approval from the city and locals while also trying to find $1B+ in funds, which is incredibly hard to get. And what is the point of getting a new arena in downtown when 75% of fans that took the poll said they’d rather have the current location over downtown. And you have to consider… only 56% of the people that attend hurricanes games are actually from Raleigh. This meaning, we need the parking and the accessibility from highways that it has now.
Yeah and it’s the state property, the same government that killed our MLS progress. The city should advise any owner who wants an MLB team here to avoid state property they will not even listen to it. They just say “Theirs to many moving parts”
I know some people on here really, really want a new downtown arena, and I understand the attraction, but it just isn’t in the cards right now for the Hurricanes.
All the people who will actually impact the decision have decided a renovation of PNC and improving the area is the course of action. Also, when the TBJ did that survey, only 18% thought PNC should be replaced with a new arena. So the desire to replace a perfectly functional PNC with a new stadium (which would probably cost like a billion dollars and take up valuable land) is a minority opinion.
I think the best hope for something near downtown in the next decade is probably still something at Downtown South. Probably soccer, longshot baseball.
Frankly, I’d be happy with RedHat Amphitheater being upgraded to the quality of the experience of Koka Booth (but with seats).
I haven’t been to either but both get quality acts. Guess I better check them out.
Welcome to the community @Triangleforward
I’m having a hard time seeing MLS, we need to put our focus on MLB now, if we have to give up some of DIX Park I’m sure they’d be happy to they did offer Malik on it but he passed. A wrong a potentially fatal move so let’s do it.
the only reason I’m against this is the large fields at dix park allow raleigh to host music festivals. Music festivals are not only fun for the fans but also bring a ton of money to the local economy and help raleigh gain national recognition
This thread…is a continual spiral into nothingness…
But, since we’re here - DO NOT give one bit of DIX park to any arena. Full stop.
If every sports hound on here wants to pool their coin in the absence of a local ‘unicorn’ to achieve this pipe dream of another major franchise / arena… Well then puff puff y’all…!
I agree. If anything, I’d just want a little community baseball field (no seats or anything) at Dix. Maybe add a permanent stage for concerts so it’s easier to attract
You seem triggered by the idea of a second major sports league there nota lot of space left for stadium/arena development we have to get this achieved. We cannot miss out. And before developers snatch those land plots it will be devastating.
A dt arena or especially a dt baseball field will be a void. It’s only activated on event nights, and this is Raleigh not NYC. It’s dead space on most nights. Not to mention a taxpayer money pit.
Btw, currently there’s nothing miss out on. Raleigh isn’t anywhere near a prio city for any major sports league.
I’m a huge sports person, but I’m not keen on cities and states funding these privately held behemoths. Studies out the wazoo proving it’s a terrible idea.
Raleigh can’t make this mistake. Dt south showed us there is some sanity among us regarding this topic. There are much more pertinent and fruitful uses for space and money in this city.
I get most of what you’re saying but how isn’t Raleigh ready for any pro sports when Hockey has done well here for 25 years and we’re bigger than some other 2 sport markets.
This is all a moot point. We are practically a circular firing squad talking about pro sports on this thread lol. Until one of us actually has enough money to make a major sports league listen to our pipe dreams, they are just that. Buy Hurricanes season tickets if you want, go see the Courage and FC (God knows they need the attendance boost). That’s as close as we’re getting for a long time absent one of our local billionaires wanting another shiny new toy.
