Raleigh Stadium/Arena/Sports Discussions

Hopefully all the national media spotlight and praise for this upcoming Stadium Series game will help kickstart building some sort of ‘district’ around the Hurricanes arena. I know folks mention the Battery in Atlanta as a possible model to aim for. I know the recent success has led to a surge in season ticket holders so I’m sure the appetite is there (from the fans) to have something around the stadium besides tailgating IMO

Getting the city, Centennial Authority, NC State, etc. all on the same page is another thing however…

Should be cool for that area and good stacking of uses! Much easier to build a basketball training facility than a baseball stadium.

Won’t get no surge in ticket sells for the Hurricanes as the arena seats 18,680 for ice hockey and the current season average attendance is 18,493. Putting a good team on the ice seems to be the best way to get people in the seats.

Dundon is fighting an uphill battle on this front. The ‘State’ has no interest in helping Raleigh…meaning the republican controlled GA. But I guess he has to go through the motions so in the end he can threaten to move the team because the State won’t cooperate & maybe the City will get some balls by that time & finally move the arena downtown like it should have been placed in the 1st place.

Will take 10 years is my bet for this scenario to play out.

You’re sort of making my point here. I couldn’t find an exact number just from searching but remember seeing somewhere recently there’s over 10k+ season tickets holders today compared to the 7000 ish from just back in the 2016-2017 timeframe when they were not competitive.

@UncleJesse Hopefully this doesn’t take that long but I since the Canes are locked in here for the next handful of years you might be right.

Inaugural post here…not sure if I am posting right, but Athletic reporting that Cary and Atlanta are two potential candidates for a new U.S. Soccer official national training center (est $300M cost). Cary potential site would leverage WakeMed Soccer Park and story notes how much easier it would be to fly into Atlanta for international players (but many of them fly private these days too). With respect to the Athletic paywall full details here: MLS may use 18-team playoffs; U.S. Soccer exploring new training center/HQ - The Athletic

Yep. I’m aware MLS is courting this area. MLS is still considering Raleigh for a franchise despite what some folks think. We just have to get our s### together for a stadium. This said, the area boasts a very strong soccer community with the big universities, not to mention strong support for the women’s game

Kinda surprised they haven’t released a preliminary master plan with some artistic renderings for their proposed long-term development plan for the PNC Arena area. Seems like that would get a lot of interest and maybe some momentum in conjunction with the Stadium Series game.

I have heard this as well.

Not a bad sporting look for the area with USA Baseball and (potentially) US Soccer within the same town.

The state helps no one but there interest it’s time that the city will do something.

If Raleigh-Cary MSA, merges with Durham-Chapel Hill I’ll more likely happen. According your source who you getting this info from.

Interesting piece. The old town looks nice. I especially like that she calls it “raleighwood” right at the start, or at least it sounds like she does, lol.

Lots of Charlotte MLB expansion rumors floating around

A city that has more Celtics fans than Hornets fans and more 49ers fans than Panthers fans. Great idea to give them more teams!

I thought they were in the Braves territory?

I’m in Vegas to watch the Super Bowl; but, there is a hockey game before. This is the Vegas version of a tailgate!
