If memory serves me right, BetMGM is at Nationals Park in the former team store. The sportsbook at CapitalOne Arena is Caesars in the former Greene Turtle.
I had the same sentiment when I was in Phoenix last year with the Fanduel book at Footprint Center. Even with many of these having food and drink it just seemed like a higher class version of any townie mini mart in New England which loves off of the lottery.
For someone that has never sports gambled, why does having a retail / physical location make such a difference? If anyone can bet online, then it doesnât seem like a huge benefit. Obviously the physical locations are a big deal though.
Yeah, itâs like a really nice sports bar with a ton of TVs, and people can just walk up, place a bet and get an immediate payout.
Honestly though, the app is the same thing with payouts being immediate and digital and transfers taking less than a day usually.
I think the business model is more about creating an atmosphere were everyone is super engaged in whatever sport is going on (bc they have money on it). That atmosphere is almost like being at the game, people are cheering, screaming, etc. That type of energy gets the attention of others and draws them in. Itâs like an entry-level sports betting for those who havenât done it.
Anyone else see or hear about the Canes signing a 20 year lease extension to keep them in PNC??? I know Raleigh Mag is connected with a lot of folks but this would be huge for the area.
Especially because the Canes are here to stay. Post their Playoffs run, Canes President and GM Don Waddell announced a 20-year lease extension with PNC Arena in the worksâsigning as soon as late July to mid-August.
Once signed, the Centennial Authority board will approve selects from some 70 ideas on the table to reenergize the property, according to Jeff Merritt, executive director of the Centennial Authority. Not to mention Wake County is slated to distribute funds from the interlocal agreement this summerâwhich levies revenue from hotels and food/beverage taxes to support arts, culture, sports and convention facilities.
Add to that the legalization of sports bettingâand âwe will now have the opportunity to build a world-class sports-wagering facility to expand the entertainment options around PNC Arena,â Waddell said in a statement posted to the Canesâ Twitter account. âOur plans also include a restaurant and bar available to fans every day, helping to spur additional development in and around the arena district.â
I heard Dundon speak about this (I believe in Ovies and Giglioâs podcast). Sounds a lot like a chicken or the egg situation. Dundon, obviously, wonât sign a lease without development promises. The centennial authority, nc state, other entities wonât promise development land without an extended lease.
That being said, still think it gets done and from what he said, sounds like that announcement could come this summer. Letâs just hope it gets done before football season when people will start getting sentimental about parking spots again.
This is fantastic news. The Canes are a great asset for Raleigh and our signature sports team, PNC Arena is located in a perfect spot for the premier arena serving the entire Triangle region, and keeping the team in its current home is by far the most cost-efficient option for everyone.
I hope theyâre still playing in PNC 40 years from now, and hopefully hang a few more Stanley Cup Championship banner in its rafters.
Maybe add womenâs hockey to Dorton ArenaâŚsince our City appears destined to never fund a sports facility downtown like virtually every other City (& small town) in AmericaâŚ
The city could fund an arena just have to get rid of a few council members I know Johnathan has stated support for MLS, MLB Major League Baseball to Raleigh. Iâm sure he be proponente for a sports arena. We must protect that man at all costs.
Yup - as a CT escapee myself, I can be seen wearing my Whalers sweatshirt around Raleigh in the colder months (original merch from early 90sâŚthey donât make 'em like they used to).
