NCFC moving back up to USL Championship after ‘self-relegating’ to USL League1 a few years ago.
Probably woulda been cooler to actually do a mural for this instead of a rough photoshop though.

Should use the return as a point to also change back to the Carolina RailHawks.
First step in fixing this franchise. Hopefully Capital Broadcasting is positioning themselves to takeover both the Courage and NCFC.
I know we all want MLS but CBC runs a top notch minor league baseball team, I would 100% take the Bulls equivalent soccer team in Raleigh.
Malik promised a lot, but his results have been disastrous. At this point, it would be best for the teams for him to sell.
I think an easy win in the short term could be NCFC/Courage making some sort of partnership with Sports & Social at the Fenton. Personally I think having one of the largest sports bars in the county near your stadium could help with branding/marketing?
Certainly couldn’t hurt. I’m sure having an actual connection between Fenton and the stadium would help as well. Sports & Social had a lot of cool things for the Canes when they were in the playoffs. I think it definitely helps from a marketing perspective.
I know it’s been posted on this thread before but it’s one of Cary’s long term projects (the connection). I have no clue when they plan on starting it however.
You’re absolutely spot on! Malik failed us with Major League Soccer while CBC has some courage ownership. But also the Goodman have failed on there part also, remember they we’re responsible on handling corporate support for the bid. This could be another minor league forever thing.
Promised us a strong MLS bid- turned out to be not even competitive with a pie in the sky stadium on government land.
Inherited that Courage team that had some world class players, slowly dismantled it and dropped from first every year to near the bottom (returning back slightly now)
Self Relegated NCFC- don’t even need to explain how bad this move was for attendance and hype around the team. Also just changing from Railhawks to NCFC felt like it ripped the souls out the team a little.
Just not a good sports owner in my opinion. He had early success with both teams and I’m grateful he moved the Courage here, but most of his decisions have been questionable at best.
Ok. A lot more context to all of that but whatever.
We’re talking about the Men’s side he’s completely done them wrong, NWSL was easy but not MLS. He could’ve got the same corporate sponsors that the women team had and used it for Major League Soccer. And I believe his president Curt Johnson was an MLS manager, why didn’t he handle or have any part of the bid? Furthermore, the USL is starting women’s league with a team in that other NC city. Now with that league starting who knows with Tepper’s power he could get MLS to merge that league and tank the NWSL from a top-tier to a second division league, because he knows Raleigh has a team in the current top-tier women’s league, and remember he tried to buy the team from Malik. It could be a revenge move, soccer was stolen from us, and Malik had a part in it.
If Malik, thinks MLS could work here with a team a literally 2 hour drive away then I’m all for it he’ll just have to convince Don Garber, the expansion committee, and furthermore we need to have support for the team to the point we get one like how San Diego, and Cincinnati got they’re teams with there nearest rivals franchises Galaxy, LAFC, and Columbus Crew respectively are all being less 2 hours away. Major League Soccer came to those cities because the owners put enough money in there franchises they won the Open Cup, had overwhelming support, their attendance was high by fans and their city politicians cared that was one of the many reasons for them to be awarded a expansion team.
How exactly did “Malik fail”? He has a City that has shown nothing be lip service to supporting a downtown stadium which is THE #1 KEY to Raleigh getting an MLS Franchise. They had every excuse under the sun…not to mention a global pandemic kind of got in the way.
I hate them kinda of people who complains about everything thing I wish there the one of be. Win that office like the mayor
I mentioned lack of city support, only Jonathan Melton has stated support, and since you know Malik how do you know he’ll get a franchise here.
Try 2.5-3 hours for starters.
Ohio has multiple teams in multiple cities. North Carolina is growing. Ohio is not.
UncleJesse, I need to get in enough spaces. Mayor Baldwin told me the same information about corporate sponsorship for another sport team that you replied to Y today. She said that The Hurricanes really does not have enough corporate backing as they wanted.
I wish we could get a wooden stadium
Agreed. MLS went to Charlotte because of Tepper’s dollars, the existing stadium, and the perception of Charlotte being a much larger city.
Malik put his best foot forward for the MLS, but it never felt like the national media or Garber had an interest in Raleigh as an expansion market.
Sacramento almost got there because of the stadium plan, but also lost their bid to San Diego and a billionaire. What it came down to was how interesting the market was to the MLS and the money the ownership group brought to the table.
Maybe the mayor needs to work with the weak-pathetic chamber of commerce.
She has not given up Y. She just has got back from Kansas City who is building a new soccer stadium downtown for their lady’s MLS Team.
