Raleigh Stadium/Arena/Sports Discussions

Could be completely dead wrong about this but I would think agriculture experts think about land sizes through a whole different lens. “There’s not a lot of land left” doesn’t feel accurate to me, but does when considering that a small family farm is on average >200 acres.

The two plots of land the Lenovo Center and Carter Finely sit on are roughly 180 acres and the footprint of an MLB stadium realistically is close to 15 acres. Target Field in Minneapolis sits on 8.5 acres, as the smallest footprint in MLB.

Moo U will enlarge the field at Carter Finley for tractor pulls before any discussion about soccer. Civilized sports are reserved for Kenan.

I agree. I think WRAL just published the interview that they got, but the commissioner of agriculture probably has a different development worldview than an owner from a big city wanting to densify/maximize usage of a piece of property.

This had to be a tough one for you. As someone that escaped the crime-ridden hellscape that is Raleigh for the bucolic Eden of Chatham-upon-Jordan.

Or they’re reserved for the metropolis that is Chatham County. :smirk:

Nothing more civilized than losing to NC State at football for the 4th year in a row this week.

Ironic since NC State men’s soccer is in the sweet 16 year this year and unc-ch is not.

The weenie brigade still using “Moo U” in 2024. You need new material. Or a shot of testosterone.

Today’s The Indy is stating that St. Augustine is leasing some of its real estate to a Florida base sports stadium development company.

Granted the roads would need a serious upgrade to facilite a stadium, this has some interesting traction. This article was published last night too, the timing of all this seems intentional.

Major League Baseball’s shaky future in Tampa | The Week

" The North Carolina cities Charlotte and Raleigh, as well as Nashville, Tennessee, have been the subject of speculation if the Rays decide to move"

The article says the Rays will play in an 11,000 seat staduim the Yankees use for Spring training?
How long will the owners agree to these small ticket sales? I think this has potential

The Raleigh Rays. Sounds good. Of course we know that it’d be the Carolina Rays because God forbid we ever push our city’s recognition.

Hey, Charlotte has the Carolina Panthers and the Charlotte Hornets.

We can have the Carolina Hurricanes and the Raleigh Rays!

And NC has plenty of beaches and stingrays are a generally cool animal (besides, it’s not like the US is full of Tigers or Lions either), so we can bring back the fun branding and ditch the snoozy rebrand.

50 1 plus seems to require 50% minority and women to participate in every project. If they were to utilize the space for a stadium, there might not be such a push back from those saying the company just wants to destroy an HBCU. That might work to their advantage with the public perception of gentrifying for the greater good. (Don’t mind my overthinking)

Plus we had that crazy stingray that got pregnant without a male around earlier this year, that’d make for an amusing mascot.

The NC coast does… Raleigh doesn’t. So if we want this hypothetical team to be the “Raleigh _____” … just keep it Rays of Sunshine. A stingray being the mascot for a purely “Raleigh” sports team wouldn’t make a lick of damn sense lmaooo

we = NC. Not Raleigh. I’d prefer any hypothetical future professional sports team here be Raleigh-centric. Not “Carolina” whatever.

The Detroit Tigers, SF Giants, LA Dodgers/Lakers, or Detroit Lions all seem to make it work
