Some construction pics of the ongoing Lenovo Center renovation
Even zoomed in I canât tell⌠who the hell is dat
You mean whose hologram is dat?
Nate Bargatze. He performed Thursday and Friday night.
We love Nate!! We had company from out of town this weekend or we would have been there as well.
Yeah, heâs great. His George Washington on SNL was so dry, clever, and hilarious.
What the hell!!! I am a fan and yet the picture legitimately looks nothing like him hahaha - glowing yellow aside!!!
They say that Jesus didnât look the same when he rose from the dead.
Raleigh is just going to keep dragging its feet until even Chapel Hill builds a new soccer stadiumâŚwtf. (I know the article header says âcricketâ but read the details)
Youâre not gonna catch me pining for a damn CRICKET stadium that may or may not also host SOCCER games at any point in my waking life ![]()
Iâd rather shoot my foot off with a 12-gauge than go to watch either sport.
I thought people were kidding about NBA to Raleigh but folks are continuing to waste their breath (finger taps?) on that. Teams only move because of stadium problems, only. Hornets donât have a stadium issue with renovations to Spectrum Center underway. So please stop talking about any NBA team coming to Raleigh. Itâs a terrible product anyway, not interested. Iâve been sitting on this one:
How cool would it be to fully renovate Dorton Arena to house a WNBA expansion franchise? Imagine Dorton brought back to life. NC will absolutely get WNBA eventually. Right now half of the teams are affiliated with NBA teams, half arenât. So itâs not guaranteed to go to Charlotte by any means. There are plenty of interim options for arenas too. Our local womenâs BB teams are consistently strong, the WNBA is booming (if you live under a rock and still think itâs a fledgling league, look now, these franchise valuations have exploded), and the market here supports womenâs sports already.
And I really wouldnât mind locking in another full time tenant for the arena district that is not named MLB, before we get MLB, so that MLB can go to DTS where it belongs. Maybe Canes/State/WNBA would be enough there, leaving soccer and MLB for DTS.
i dont follow NBAâŚbut are CLT Hornets attendance numbers demanding extra dollars spent onâŚwhat? a few extra corporate boxes? better LEDs for effects? what? are margins that close?
Dorton Arena is so cool. It would be epic to have it revitalized. As the worldâs first stadium with a cable-supported roof, it may be the most architecturally significant building in the Triangle.
And a WNBA team in the Triangle seems like it could be a great fit. Maybe even have it owned/affiliated w/ the Hornets.
Edit: in my opinion, Dorton Arena and City Market may be the two most under-utilized built assets in the area. Both could be absolutely amazing and are nowhere near their potential.
Wolfpack footballâs uniforms will be leaning into some Raleigh branding this season by sporting acorns on the front and âCity of Oaksâ on the back of their helmets. Pretty cool as a lot of folks find out about other cities through sports - know I did as a kid. As a wolfpack fan and Raleigh lover, I dig em!
I wonder what old neon sign they are refrencing, pine state?
it looked sort of like pine state script to me
So based on the public comments recently, it seems certain the MLB stadium would be in the Lenovo Center area. I also canât imagine Dundon would want to build TWO whole mixed-use entertainment districts in the same city (in addition to his Lake Crabtree project). So my best guess is it narrows it down to two locations; A) across Trinity Rd at the existing horse complex, or B) next to Lenovo Center.
A:
B: Kinda only 1 spot a MLB stadium could fit on the Lenovo Center lot and would require losing a decent about of the mixed-use development and also encroaches on the flood area some.
Thanks for the hard work on the diagrams, but if you donât support MLB in DTS, can you please move this conversation to Reddit or somewhere else? We need to be united on this forum because we know there are already people who think the arena district makes the most sense for MLB and are advocating for that. It does make sense, I get it. But this DTR forum cares about DTR vitality and a stadium in DTS would be the biggest home run ever for DTR. Why is it so hard for us to rally around this idea and unite on this forum? We lost out on soccer and an arena in DTS already. MLB is the last hope for something transformational in the vicinity of DTR. But yâall continue to advocate against it (by supporting a stadium in the arena district). Itâs beyond confusing and disappointing.
