love all kinds of speculative maps - please keep posting them as you wish.
Iām still not convinced how this would be a better location than DTS for a MLB stadium. Those are just my two cents but Iām open to seeing peopleās explanations.
Thereās no way the state would give up the horse complex in the first picture for an MLB stadium.
Even if it is better (I obv donāt think it is), I cannot comprehend why a DTR forum full of people who supposedly care about making DTR more vibrant would just ignore the viable options we have near downtown (DTS or even central prison). If we didnāt have suitable options adjacent to DTR, I wouldnāt have this take. Please explain in that context.
You know this site isnāt called ArenaDistrictRaleigh Community right? Iām not trying to silence you, I just question your motives as someone who is part of this Downtown Raleigh online community. There are other places you can go to drum up interest in yet another suburban mixed use district.
Raleigh is now a major city. We need these teams, as well as light rail. āThe Raleigh Caps.ā Idk, anything. We need it.
Has anyone here said they wouldnāt want a potential stadium in DTR? I think we would all prefer that. Most people are just speculating that if it does happen then what are the likeliest outcomes.
bingo. extra characters.
I DO fully support DTR, however, Iām still very skeptical of DTS. To date there has been basically zero done at the site. No streets laid out, no underground utility work. A few proposals, yes, but how long ago were those submitted for review? Iām in the āIāll believe it when I see itā camp on DTS. Meanwhile, they just up a crane in the past week at North Hills (another building is imminent), cranes are going up in DTR (YES YES YES!!!) We are growing as a city. The only publicly known proponent with deep pockets for MLB is the owner of the Hurricanes who is also trying to create an entertainment hub by the two existing stadiums. So, IF it happens, and HE is the owner, it just makes sense to continue building on his investment in west Raleigh, not a vacant field 2 miles south of downtown..
DTS is not downtown Raleigh. It would just be another detached entertainment Hub the same as Lenovo Center. There is miles of wasteland between DTS and DTR that will take generations to fill in. Long after anyone on this forum is still around.
Dude thatās like saying āmy vote doesnāt matter so Iām not votingā and then complaining that the worse candidate won. Well your non-vote is the same thing as a vote for the candidate you didnāt want to win. At this point in the game, things like publicly supporting an arena district site and mocking up renderings there is the same thing as opposing DTS. IMO we should be drumming up support for downtown 100% of the time. My idea for WNBA at the arena district is because Dorton is cool and already exists, before you call me out on that.
I think you think anyone here has way more impact than they actually do. People having fun with renderings here will have no impact on a multi billion dollar decision.
The Lenovo Center is 7 miles from downtown. DTS is only 2. Maybe Iām wrong, but it seems like with all the new development south of downtown, the distance could close quicker than you think.
The southern BRT goes right through the DTS area as well, and I imagine that will spur additional growth.
That being said, I think the most likely location is next to the Lenovo Center, even though Iād prefer downtown.
My Brother in Christ: āDowntown Southā literally doesnāt even exist as of today.
Itās like 1.2 miles.
I couldāve sworn someone on the forum posted something that said Dundon was not interested in putting it near Lenovo. I could be wrong but I usually have a good memory about stuff like this.
To add to your point, DTS is also zoned to be an entertainment district with professional sports stadium. It being undeveloped right now is irrelevant.
The historical wealthy nimbyism rhetoric is holding us back. Itās time for us to graduate and shine as a great city for all metro citizens!!! I want to catch the train to the stadium and watch the Raleigh caps!!!![]()
Correct, and I donāt think anyone here thinks itās getting off the ground anytime soon in current state (relatively basic plans for office, residential, music venue) because of momentum in downtown proper and the park district. DTS needs something major as a catalyst to get the whole thing started, like MLB or a soccer stadium.
Thereās no discussion about this yet, but you know Cary is going to try to keep soccer in Cary by absorbing the wake med soccer park in with Fenton and connecting Trinity Rd. So while Iād say if we donāt get MLB in DTS, maybe weād get soccer someday, that seems like an uphill battle too. With neither, what even is DTS? So yeah, there are layers to my argument and Iām thinking ahead.
Speaking of soccer. I donāt think Iāve seen it mentioned yet, but USL, the minor soccer league that NCFC plays in, announced a few months back, that they are creating a new, division one soccer league ( same level as MLS.) but the real kicker is that it will also implement the promotion-relegation system, as is done in soccer leagues in Europe and pretty much everywhere else
That could mean for NCFC, is that they will either be one of the teams in the new top division, or that they could play their way into the league at some point. ( Think Wrexham playing their way up the English leagues.)
So, we may yet see a top level soccer team in Raleigh, after losing out to Charlotte for MLS.
I have no idea what Malik may be thinking around this. But it certainly opens up a new path for him and NCFC.
Personally, I would much rather see us get a top level soccer team, vs MLB. But thatās just me. Maybe we can end up with both. Why not?
I feel the same. I would take either or. However, my preference leans to the MLB⦠Either franchise can be named The Raleigh Caps. Give us something Raleigh. Lol
most of Dix got moved to Butner
