In this case, the city wrote the affordable housing requirement that the developer (once chosen) will have to abide by. If there’s push back, it exposes a MUCH larger issue within our city government.
…oh, oh, oh, can we start there ouster now?
Thanks for the clarification. I thought it was GoTriangle that was setting the requirements. If it was the city, and they don’t realize compromises have to made in size/height/space to meet that requirement and for the project to pencil out, then they are just disconnected from reality.
This project (Z-19-19) received unanimous approval from the Planning Commission last week and the public hearing has now been set before City Council for September 17 at 2 pm. It’s likely conditions will be added to the request on Sept 20 and a vote will be asked for at the October 1st City Council meeting. Follow @dtrcac on Twitter for more info!
The reason they’re asking for the re-zoning in the first place is to include affordable housing so I don’t think it’ll have any problems getting approved.
Please help spread the word for this Public Hearing!

Ok just wondering can I go to different CAC meetings if I live in another district (for example if I lived in the northeastern district or whatever could I go to the central CAC?
Free country you can go anywhere you want. Boarders are just a construct of the mind man. Don’t let the social constraints of the man over throw your natural boundaries of life. Be Free
Yes. All CAC meetings are welcome to all.
But you are only supposed to vote if you live within the boundaries.
And the CACs are “supposed to” represent the viewpoint of everyone who lives there, not just the 20 people who hate everything.
I get the feeling that only people that generally attend these are the ones complaining about projects.
This is the case with almost everything.
That’s true but only the fault of the X-20 for not showing up. Hence, the DTRCAC promoting involvement and activation.
The public hearing for this continues on Sept 17.

I think they’re hoping the PH closes and it can go for a vote the following meeting.
You nailed it. These CACs are questionable at best…which is a bit sad because they could be so much more if the people who actually want to see progress in our city would participate but basically CACs are for the naysayers and people who want to complain and stop any development. The ones who say a “40 foot building will cast a shadow on Oakwood…” are my favorites!
Everyone likes the idea of grassroots democracy until it comes to showing up for the meetings. I know I do.
The meetings are non-binding but forcing people to show up at a meeting as the only way to have their voices heard isn’t democratic. It caters to those with the time and capability to do so.
That’s exactly right. As a father of two kids who have after school activities, swimming, soccer, homework… we barely have time for dinner in the evenings, much less making a CAC meeting on a random night.
