Rockway Apartments - S. Saunders/Lake Wheeler Developments

David Cox will act just like Nicole Stewart did for 90% of the meetings on the current council. Hush until she had a battle she either thought she would win or just needed to put her 2 cents into. I think we’ll hear MUCH more of her now and MUCH less of him. :+1:t3::ok_hand:t3:

Think there might be some small concessions but I have a good feeling. First big test for the new council.

Well, Saige made his first freshman blunder by jumping the gun with his excitement. We know how he’s voting.

Plan to include 50+ micro units which will be less than 550 sqft.

There’s still a long way to go but we’re getting a signature development at the city’s southern gateway.

Sailed through. Agreed should have a significant impact on southern gateway

My only concern: will it obstruct the money shot?

The new city council is good, you guys.

I think the Merge folks owe me a beer for sitting through the anti abortion crowd so I could speak in favor of this project - in 23 seconds or less.

Saige did good with the prepared motion. He obviously did some homework.

It absolutely will not. What it might give you is a glimpse of it to the west as you ascend S. Saunders toward the money shot. When you see it at its best from the top of S. Saunders, you’ll also see the money shot as your gaze from west to east. It will be like a one-two money shot punch.

I have trouble remembering where this is at in the process. It was not recommended by the planning commission but now the city council has officially passed it?

It won’t as @John pointed out but in a few years the “money shot” is going to give way to the view from the Boylan Bridge. I think it will give a much better view of what Raleigh has become.

They passed the rezoning today, so next step will be site reviews for the individual parts of the Planning District. Planning commission had some concerns about issues with the internal streets and the other area streets not being able to handle increased traffic. Council didn’t think this was enough to hold up the rezone but some of these things will need to be addressed when the actual drawings get produced. Merge Capital seemed to suggest they had solutions for these issues.

Anti-abortion crowd? huh?
I was watching the recording of the afternoon session first, so I missed the front end of the evening session.

Micro units, awesome!! I hope the rent is $600/no for those

I’d still expect the rents to be about $2 a foot per month.
