Show Off Things From Other Cities

Rome Fumicino Airport In’t’l Terminal. You walk about 20 after security, thru duty free and then into the luxury shopping center, then finally you get to the gates. I thought some folks would appreciate the retail mix. Maybe we will score this in the alleyway of the Nexus project.

They’re intentionally funneling every passenger past duty free so they’re more likely to buy stuff. Fun if you want to shop, annoying if you just want to get to your gate.

Last one for today. We drove half way to the beach last night & spent the night in Augusta, GA. We had a fantastic dinner. Interesting town. Big but old downtown. Not a lot of new builds but lots of renos.

2nd photo is a crazy. That is and early 20th, building, beautiful terra cotta facade with a modern, funky addition. It is the Lamar Bldg if anyone wants to do further research.

Pretty sure rents & leases were part of the finacing plan.

Rocky Mount Mills is actually a decent spot.
So sad to see the state of their actual downtown though.

@pBeez out of all the traveling, work and passing by I’ve actually never been to Downtown Augusta. The only Georgia city of note I can say that about.

We’re gonna be in Barcelona (and Paris and Marseille) in September. Our hotel literally has a Louis Vuitton and a Gucci store on the same block. May have to live there now.

Also, train trip to Greensboro today. We need more enchanted water features in our alleys, and more colorful trim on our old buildings.

after more than a decade, we finally went downtown. We both enjoyed the break, & the awesome dinner. Next time we will explore more, the riverwalk & history museum, and take a pix with the James Brown statue! Broad St is really broad, lol. It is in the 1st pic.

The old Catholic catherdral is an arts center now. There are 2 really big factories/mills that are now apartments & lofts. The mill pictured is just a couple blocks from Broad St. There is a lot of empty space but alot of potential.

Whenever I hear “Barcelona” this immediately goes through my mind

I’ve never been but always wanted to visit. Have lived in Paris and Marseille though. I’m looking forward to all the pictures in the “other cities” thread come September!

Dubai and other oil wealth airports are the best (worst).

Doha, Qatar airport:

I flew through there once on my way to Singapore. It really is something else.

Saw another residential tower proposed for Downtown Durham at the NE corner of Morris & Morgan:

A lot of activity at this west end of Downtown with it being between The Novus and the YMCA redevelopment (“CORE Durham”):

And, non of these are more than 27 stories because Durham has a 300 ft height limit. Why, I don’t know.

Apparently you can go higher if you provide specific provisions like 15% affordable units (+60 feet), green roof (+15 feet), stormwater collect and reuse (+15 feet), facade articulation (+30 feet), public parking (+30 feet).

A little bit of Queen City comes to Durm - appears to be a cool concept but admittedly, I’ve never been in the CLT locations. Could be nice to see this sort of expanded-convenience-market-kinda-thing begin to start cropping up along the New Bern or South Saunders corridors ?

Oh I love Common Market in Charlotte! Great sandos and a wide variety of snacks, drinks, and knicknacks

Basically Brookside Bodega in the Oak and Mord Burbs going to be the same thing?

Reminds me I need to pay a visit.

“Dope bar food, very drinkable drinks, baller patio + odds and ends to take home.” I’m sorry but this is some of the cringiest shit…

Oak Island is further from Raleigh than a lot of beachs, but worth the drive. It runs east to west, so you face south and get great sun rises & sets. Best of all, the east end of the island is heavily wooded. You can’t see them, but under those trees are dozens of houses. I hate to spoil an undiscovered sport, but for you, my DTR family, I will highly reccomend you visit

In addition you get to watch the traffic in & out of the Cape Fear.

Both pics are looking at Bald Head. The old light house is to the left, at 110 feet. The 1st ship is about as big as I see come in.
