Show Off Things From Other Cities

I do not enjoy being in buildings that sway. It drives me to drink so that I can counter-sway.

You don’t even need to drink to feel drunk for this one in Sopot, Poland.

The dangers of largest job/campus wins turning out to not pan out too much for some people.

From your perspective, why is this relevant and on-topic?

Because this is supposed to the be the thread to discuss/share updates from other cities

aaahh ok. Not exactly. (at least from my POV) Let me borrow the original text from @John in the first post.

I am starting a thread devoted to examples from other cities that Raleigh can emulate, and/or learn from.

I don’t see how sharing an article about plans for something in another city being canceled fits with the original intent of this thread. Therefore, off-topic, no?

Miami Beach got a new park in exchange for letting a developer go tall on a new residential tower. The developer not only gave the land to the city but also built the park.
Could we use this sort of method for getting Devereux Meadows park sooner?

Your site, no arguments from me.

This is a greenway over a highway in Boston, each section/park has a different attraction: mazes, large swings, water features, and gardens. If the city or state picked up on your idea, this would be a good example to follow @atl_transplant.

YES. This is ideally what I meant the other day when I said that CC needs to demand more from developers.

Is that from The Big Dig?

The Big Dig! One of the most hellaciously over budget and difficult to build modern construction projects in the US. Totally worth it in the end, though.

Except we don’t have a major interstate highway running through downtown that needs to be burried at a cost of nearly $15 billion…

And terrifying to drive on… Maybe that is just me, but I’ve not had great experiences the few times I have been to Boston

I feel bad for the construction workers who built the thing honestly. Unlike the Panthers HQ, which was ā€˜only’ halfway done, this campus was all but completed and ready to be opened. That Axios article from @Francisco pointed it out and I found this from one of the construction folks behind it.

I don’t recommend driving in Boston :man_shrugging:t4:. Walking, biking and using public transit is the way to go.

True, but we do have those rr tracks - this park is a great model for the Artery.

WOW I didn’t realize they backed out of an already nearly finished development!!! Kind of insane… I’m sure some company will buy it at a nice, discounted price given that the build was already paid for, but just crazy that some companies have the kinda scratch to take that kind of a loss…
