LOL Boston and metro west are basically where I learned to drive and did all of my formative driving from 2000-2009. It’s fine if you’re used to it, but I turned on my Boston Driving Mode with @GucciLittlePenguin one time visiting and she was terrified.
But yes, the public transit and walkability within neighborhoods is great, and it’s much easier not to use a car if you know what you’re doing and where you’re going than it is down here. Plus parking prices can be crazy in the popular areas.
It was an opportunity to bash Charlotte, which is never ever passed up on DTRaleigh.
Fyi the “short term” CEO that pushed for the Charlotte expansion died halfway through the project, and the new one has been drastically scaling back on office space everywhere.
Maybe the takeaway could be - Boston had the balls to spend some real money on public infrastructure. Raleigh will take 50 years to install a sidewalk down Atlantic Ave. Does anyone realize how expensive sidealks are!!!
End of the day - North Carolina’s auto fatality rate is 14.7/100,000. Massachusetts is 1/3 of that at 4.9/100k. For context - Russia is 11.2/100k. I’ve been to Russia many times and everyone has seen the viral YouTube videos. Russian’s are insane on the roads.
Anyone still want to blame the Yankees for the insanity on the roads down here or can we finally all agree its design and infrastructure? Give me Boston or NYC any day of the week. I’m much less likely to die.
Remember what 301H could have been if their CEO hadn’t died.
Now we have one of the worst looking towers in DTR and half the project is cancelled.
Red Hat’s generous remote from home policy even before Covid one of the reason they don’t have a second tower even though there where rumors about it in 2017 before they got IBM’d.
I’m impressed Fenton is pulling in all these vendors (both locally and out of state) while places like Bloc 83, Smoky Hollow, and North Hills have lots of empty/unoccupied stores.
You think someone with deep enough pockets like Kane or the Bloc 83 folks could hire a millennial who understood social media and marketing well enough to tap into the market?
I’ve shared this before. But I was seriously looking at opening a bar/ice cream shop late 2020/last year, with a couple of investors lined up. Both Bloc83 and Kane leasing were hard to reach, never followed up, and were extremely expensive to lease. I’m not surprised that things have moved slowly at both Smoky Hollow & Bloc83 unfortunately.
That’s a shame as one can really tell the scale of how many empty store fronts are currently sitting there on Bloc 83 when you take the left from Boylan onto Hillsborough. I’ll be genuinely surprised if all those store fronts on both existing buildings + the third tower + the parking deck get filled IMO
Fenton seems to be getting a lot of businesses that usually only pop up around sporting venues. Very weird mix, but maybe they know something we don’t know…
