Fuquay would be a really nice option if the train comes to fruition, but it’s so far away without that. Not sure how people do that commute.
That sounds like it’ll be good for those towns, and Asheville will keep growing and getting more things too. Win win.
ehhhh… to each their own, but Asheville will quickly exit my destination list if it loses it’s grit and arts scene. There are thousands in A’ville that don’t view the rapid interest from retirees as a win.
In pretty enormous semi-regional transit news, the Washington Metro Silver Line extension to Dulles finally opened to the public: Six New Stations. Endless Possibilities. | WMATA
Cities always feel so much more more accessible as a tourist that can’t expense Uber fare when there’s a rail connection to the airport. Even the most pleasant buses just don’t compare.
Plus so many more people have the option not to sit in NoVa traffic anymore, which is a huge net good for world happiness.
Awesome!
Man, I just rode that line 3 weeks ago and had to do the rail > bus transfer. Glad it’s open now!
Interesting how the whole extension is in the middle of the freeway/toll roads.
This is good for DC metro, Dullas was always an airport for me to avoid since it is a) so far from town and b) crappy public transport. These leaves BWI as the only jetport without good connections. (bus to amtrack . . . )
I don’t care about grit but I do like their breweries, the arts scene, and the homemade kind of quality it has/had. I also don’t want to see that all go away. I was being a little flippant. I do feel like it’s just getting very expensive to visit Asheville and be in walking distance to the main stuff. Still my second favorite spot in NC after the Triangle.
Here are a few pictures of “low intensity and high density” from a weekend in Annapolis, MD.
Thoughts? Do we have anything close to this anywhere in the Triangle?
Annapolis is a cool town.
I recall in 1980 one of those town homes was going for 300k. It had no indoor plumbing and the kitchen was detatched. I can only imagine what they go for now!
I agree with you - definitely hard to visit these days in walking distance accommodations.
I was also over playing devil’s advocate. Asheville is still awesome and likely will be for a long time. I do think we’ll lose some of the arts and music as it gentrifies
Yeah the rail to FV would be such an asset to Southern Wake/Harnett county and the greater Fayetteville area. From a driving perspective it depends on where you’re trying to go but 401 is a straight shot into downtown FV from downtown Raleigh. Sounds like this park might be out there off highway 42 so maybe the newest leg of 540 might help bring some folks since I believe it should be going through that general area?
Iron District is a nod to the Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company which has owned that land since I believe 1901. Historically they produced iron pipes and fittings but are moving iron production out to a new Stanly County facility in Oakboro.
Meanwhile Austin developers are looking at an 80-story high rise, while Raleigh residents lose their minds over 40 story proposals…
Austin TX gets a lot more sun than us too, so even MORE SHADOWS
Well they are losing it in North Hills right next to some of our wealthiest residential neighborhoods, aka NIMBY central. That’s in downtown Austin, and on the historically poorer east side.
Stonestown Mall in San Francisco (you’ve probably seen it if you’ve flown into SFO and driven to points north) is developing all of their 70s-style surface parking into a mixed use neighborhood. What a wild thought.
I went there once for work and it seemed small and quaint. Must be growing quite a bit!
Also, their beach has seals. We should get one of those here.
Okay but pics of seals plz. You can’t just casually bring that up with no pic, a tease.
