Show Off Things From Other Cities

(We’ve all quietly been independently stalking downtown Cary.) #secretcrush :heartpulse:

Looks like that house in @TedF’s picture will also soon be this:

The houses needing to be demolished for this entire project, including a land swap with the church to replace their parking lot, have already been taken down. I believe these are actually the back of adjacent businesses which are remaining.

This is about as hodgepode-y as you can get while sticking to the neutral pantone chips required in Caryopolis…looks like brick, stucco, metal and wood-inspired cementious siding in play to create that effusive materiality we’re so keen on these days :1st_place_medal:

Not sure where the picture you shared is from… but it appears this is the lot in question:

It’s kind of an L shaped project. The office building with retail will be located right there in your picture on Chatham St. I took the picture from Academy St where the rest of the project will be occurring (behind the new office building. All the buildings and trees have been removed.

Took me a minute to orient this, given that their first rendering is on an overhead view map of Cary before Bond Bros, or the building next door with Side Bar, or the municipal lot.

Seeing how much of that forested/crappy old house section was cleared out last night was nuts. Cool to see the plans for the apartments going there, and excited for more restaurants and stuff on the ground floor!

The best part of all the new Cary developments is seeing the responses on the Cary Downtown Facebook page.

I can only imagine. It pops up on my feed occasionally, and I want to troll the responses a little, but it’s exhausting.

Yes. I had the same issue. Not sure why such dated aerial photography was used to show the overhead view.

A few drone shots from ATL this morning. All of those parking lots in the last photo are part of a 5 billion dollar infill development called centennial yards

I’ll be in ATL for several days starting tomorrow.

I don’t need to sell this group on public transportation. But it is still amazing to see it working in every day life. This is Basel Switzerland where the cars are few, the bikes are plentiful, and these babies rule the universe.

One of my friends was just out in Basel. They loved it there and were vastly impressed. Said they loved seeing older people on bikes as well.

Would miss my Taco Bell/KFC drive thru. Bike has no roof nor heated seats not even a heated steering wheel! Plus it’s hilly. No go. Can’t pick my nose and fart on a train with a bunch of strangers either. I do like Little Debbie Swiss cake rolls however. Bring me back some…

Lol. In all honesty, I’m not a bike person at all. I completely and wholeheartedly support biking and all transit options. But it is often hot, cold, raining, etc. and I enjoy the comfort and flexibility of my car, and I just like driving. Public transit makes sense in a dense city, like Boston or Denver, where I would absolutely use it. But even if we got commuter and light rail in the Triangle, I’d probably still drive unless I was taking a single purpose, alcohol related trip. I know this is an unpopular stance on here, and that’s ok.

Also, I know someone who lives in Basel, and it sounds pretty awesome.

Cheers from Buenos Aires. Here’s a quick time lapse of walking around Cementario de la Recoleta in the Recoleta neighborhood of the city. Eva Peron (former first lady and wife of Argentine President Juan Domingo Peron) is buried here. She was the inspiration for the song “Don’t cry for me Argentina.” :argentina:

From Wiki: La Recoleta Cemetery is a cemetery located in the Recoleta neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It contains the graves of notable people, including Eva Perón, presidents of Argentina, Nobel Prize winners, the founder of the Argentine Navy, and military commanders like Julio Argentino Roca.
