Show Off Things From Other Cities

Man, I wish I could move to Denver!! How about those Broncos? :stuck_out_tongue:

Staying at the Kimpton? Nice view.

I was in Fredericksburg, VA last weekend for a Bowling tournament and it dawned on me that it would be great if Raleigh had a 50 lane bowling alley somewhere near or on Glenwood Ave.

I don’t know about 50 lanes, but I agree with the idea a DT bowling alley. The more variety of activities we have downtown, the better!

I said 50 because it would be great if the place could be for competition purposes and public use.

I’m trying to wrap my head around how large of a floorplate one would need for 50 lanes, and I’m imagining it being pretty large. I don’t know that I’d be willing to give up that much floorplate in one building, or take up that much sidewalk experience.
Do you have an example of one in an urban setting to reference?
Maybe it could be a subterranean facility? I can imagine it being built under phase 2 of Smoky Hollow or something like that.

Even a standard 32-lane alley such as the Buffalo Lanes on 401 in Garner occupy about .75 acres (and that’s just the building, not including parking.) 50 would probably be tough to pull off in Downtown unless they could be stacked onto multiple levels.

The one on Hillsborough was, what 30-lanes on half a block? It’s doable, but yes, it would have to be part of stacked building.

Using a Google search, a 50 lane alley would require about 50,000 ft2. That’s more than an acre of floor area.

That’s a lot of hardwood!

I’ve been dreaming of turning Kimbrells on Fayetteville St into a double decker bowling alley. If anyone knows the winning Powerball numbers for this weekend, I’d really appreciate it.

Tall buildings.

A state capitol that is actually nice (and functional)

The central tower of Miami’s largest urban development (and second only in the USA to Hudson Yards) has been completed and is closing on its condo units. Just look at/read what this project is going to yield when fully completed.

More on Miami World Center.

If Downtown South goes ahead, it would be among the largest urban projects in the country.

I don’t have an example which is great, there is always greatness that comes from being a first (not really but maybe in this case). It would be nice if we got one, one story, two, three even, doesn’t matter. I’m pretty sure there is space for a 50,000 sq alley somewhere in that area.

Might have to tear down a building but :man_shrugging:t4:

Someone should just walk around dt Asheville and make a list of everything we need in Raleigh; for example, we stopped at a little cafe where you could use a variety of hundreds of board games while eating a sandwich or a cookie or ice cream or some sort of snack and coffees

Coffee I mean :coffee::coffee::coffee:

I’d also be ok with legal cannabis. Denver has that down so well. Not a crazy tourist thing or in your face but handled really subtlety while now ingrained in the culture.
