Show Off Things From Other Cities

Meanwhile I have some more pictures I took from the perimeter of the Downtown Cary park. Will I stop doing this once it opens next month, or will I just have even more pictures? :man_shrugging:

This looks great. Any way I can visit it when it’s still empty like this and before the hordes of people?

Lol! You just need a step stool to go over the fence. Go for it! And take some pictures of the interior…

Novus progress

The sea of apts. Kinda surprised this municipal parking lot hasn’t been eaten up yet.

I just like this.

An overview of Durham projects.

Upper left - Heritage Square
Dark Blue - Novus (300 ft)
Teal - Durham Center 2 (300 (+?) ft)
Burgandy/Turqoise - YMCA towers (300 ft)
Orange upper right - American Tobacco phase 2 (200 ft)

By the time Durham passes Greensboro to become the 3rd largest city in the state, it’ll have a skyline of its own.

Maybe Cary can get one too for when it reaches 200k? @GucciLittlePig

I thought Durham Center 2 got cancelled because the city didn’t want to sell their parking deck?

Craig Davis already owns the deck. He is wrangling with NIMBYs who are very upset about losing parking directly across from the Carolina Theatre. I believe the affordable housing component is a bigger hitch that could derail the whole thing.

It has certainly come a long way since the old CCB tower was the tallest building.
Hard to imagine that 2nd, 3rd, and what is Cary 5th? largest cities in the state will all be in the same metro. Is there a way to merge all of us in to Big A** Raleigh?

Nice day trip to Wilmington / Wrightsville Beach yesterday. Love the beach being close enough to go to for a day. It gets a lot of deserved praise, but honestly surprised it doesn’t get talked about more often in Charleston / Savannah conversations. It has a lot going for it.

Staying in my gf’s city in Poland and they have 1 really big tower (696 ft) and that’s it. It’s like the OKC of Poland.

Interesting that Diesel pricing is aligned with regular and not premium (or higher) like I often see here.

Interesting article about Greensboro’s goal to be a “car-optional” city by 2045 by one of the consultants working on it: Greensboro: A North Carolina City Imagines a "Car-Optional" Future — Human Transit

It especially focuses on the challenges in picking between ridership-focused and coverage-focused public transit models.

I noticed that too. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Sounds like the voters voted for a $1.00 increase in gas tax per gallon recently to help fund the high speed rail. It sure hurt my feelings to spend $80 to fill up a Tacoma. The tacos are good though, so there’s that…

$1 PER GALLON??? Wow
As an EV driver, I support that. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But seriously, that’s significant and I’m shocked that got voted in. Good news for HS rail!
