and near the outer harbor in Buffalo, some nice quality of life bike lane improvments. the lane along furman had nice amenities along it, i guess similar to raleighs soccer center being off of one of the greenways, a music venue, hammocks, and nature park space, etc when i did drive i found Buffalo pretty easy to naviagte in. overall pleasant experience there with nice weather.

Fun fact: Buffalo has a sort-of subway (actually classified “light rail”, but with underground stations downtown and some heavy rail characteristics). This is for a city w/ population ~250,000 and metro area just over a million – if you include sister city Niagara falls. There’s only one line but it’s surprisingly useful. Ridership is not where it should be but still respectable on a per capita basis. Proof positive that medium-size cities can support serious transit infrastructure.

If you were up there for the game last night, I am truly sorry. What a joke  :sob:

Some from Rosslyn VA which is downtown area of Arlington County across the Potomac River from downtown DC. Height restrictions due to location near Reagan National Airport keep everything under 395 feet tall. But lots of interesting buildings and many older office buildings being converted to residential or torn down completely. Walked over the Potomac to Theodore Roosevelt Island for a skyline shot too.

and a couple more from Rosslyn VA. Lot of hotels here if you are coming to Washington DC area and 3 Metro lines into DC from here.

Another month, another trip :stuck_out_tongue: I’m not going to talk about Bismark, ND from September  (Just think of a cold version of Greenville, NC).

This weekend I went to Portland, Oregon for a half marathon (State #35!!). I was blown away by how incredible (and walkable/bikeable) it was. I took the tram from the airport and walked everywhere I went. All the hype in the media is just that, I truly didn’t feel unsafe wandering around the city ALONE for 3 days. My only real gripe was the open drug usage, not my thing. There were lots of unhoused people, but no one bothered me or harassed me for money or food. Even the mile walk from my hotel to the race start at 6AM in the dark wasn’t really that bad. (St. Louis… now that was a scary walk in the dark!!)

As I was packing up to head back to the airport, I noticed Mt Adams peeking out from my hotel room window. Mt. St Helens was over there too, but I didn’t have time to figure out which peak it was. I did see Mt. Hood coming in and on the way back to the airport, but alas, no pics. (Always a geologist, sometimes a marathoner. )

Non existent from what I saw on the streets…

Apparently, there was an incident Saturday night, but by the time I went back across the river into downtown at 6AM Sunday morning, I didn’t see anything. :person_shrugging:

i left before…the hype level was felt.

What do we have to do to get a villain lair like this in Raleigh?

We have to be Oklahoma City. #nothanks

Is that Monterrey? The mountain backdrops there are insane.

It could also be Mexico City

Are those mountains? Or just clouds? It is beautiful either way. I don’t see enough tiled roofs to think its anywhere in Mexico.

They’re both. Found an image, but idk how to post.

Nvm. Thought I had it.

Yeah that’s it. Google image search confirms

Funny enough I only know that because I was doing some reading about the city’s cable car system, after all the talk about it here for Dix.
