I’ve always thought that Holiday Inn was a pretty unattractive building, but I think some of that is because as the only tall building for a few blocks in all directions, it is just so prominent. I daresay that if/when there are other buildings of a similar height nearby, and it blends in a bit, I will warm up to it slightly b/c my reaction won’t be “wow, the only tall building in this area is so outdated” it will be more “that’s a kind of cool retro building among all the sleek new towers”.
At least, that’s what I hope. 301 Hillsborough/Raleigh Crossing is a good start. If 401H ever goes up, that would also help.
A similar design is the Radisson Hotel in Covington KY, just across from downtown Cincinnati. This one has the restaurant on top that actually revolves.
I always thought if they painted the exterior (current color beige) to something funky it would look super Miami and thus way more retro and interesting. I’m thinking like a flamingo pink, neon green, or day-glo orange. I’m being 100% serious.
Am guessing semi-current. Progressing through the Johnson & Wales campus on West Trade. The NCRR overpass is in the distance where the Charlotte Gateway station is to be.
We probably won’t see anything quite so snazzy since we’re not South Florida.
We’ll likely get Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit District‘s Nippon Sharyo DMUs. These rascals are going to be able to get up to speed much faster given direct traction with all axles…
