Show Off Things From Other Cities

I like a lot of that style and we have quite a bit of it in Raleigh new buildings everywhere… that one in particular just looks like they threw in everything and the kitchen sink and a few other parts too. Just too much for me but it’s cool they have that kind of a big building in their downtown

You have to realize that SC cities aren’t as small as their city populations make it seem. SC did not have the liberal annexation laws that NC had for many years. So, that haven’t been able to expand their boundaries. Greenville’s MSA is around 920,000 and their CSA is around 1,400,000. Still much smaller than Raleigh, but not small townish.

Greenville has a waterfall right in its downtown which is cheating. If only Raleigh had been built next to Spruce Pine Falls in what is now north Durham County. Alas, nay.

Damn Isaac Hunter and his 1700s trickery!

Wasn’t it Joel Lane’s land that was sold for the city? Blame that guy!

But Isaac Hunter had the tavern they all wanted to be near. They’re both jerks. We could’ve had a water feature!

Lived there about 10 years before moving to Raleigh. Place is awesome for a smaller city. Career wise Raleigh / RTP is much better for me, plus the in-laws are closer, which are the main two reason we moved here. But we do miss Greenville. We lived about a mile or two form the falls downtown. I had a jogging route down to the river, along the greenway to the falls, and back.

There is a small zoo in a park near downtown. Great for a quick trip with the kids. On a cold, crisp night, we could hear the monkeys howling in the distance from our house.

Greenville was an old textile mill town that declined in the 70’s and 80’s. But somehow got thing turned around big time in the 2000’s. There used to be a road bridge right over the falls. They tore it down and built the park with the signature pedestrian bridge to become a centerpiece of downtown. You can find videos on YouTube of people kayaking down them after a big rain when the water moves a lot more. And it’s literally a block off of Main Street

Could be our city, I suppose…Eventually.

They just need to make all the angles right, and fill the center with parking and it would be perfect for Raleigh!! Honestly, it is a pretty cool looking building and nice to see what can be done outside of a box. A 38 min’ walk to campus? Better not over sleep, you’d never make it to class!

In case anyone is looking for a new home in the south Austin area. Enjoy!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more atrociously interior decorated house! Each his own, I guess.

I remember well when those colors were the rage. Gracious, they’d not aged well. Still, rooms look big and a nice lot. There better be a big repainting credit, lol.

oh my god this hurts my eyes

Can you imagine being the listing agent and having to walk through that house in preparation for listing? Imagine the social gymnastics they went through to not offend the seller. When the backyard man cave is the least offensive thing on the property, you know that there are big problems! Some items to complete the look:

  1. Macrame and shell wall hangings
  2. Elbow macaroni art
  3. Creepy doll collection.

Durham has new electric buses, and they have pretty cool livery:

I feel like that videographer just learned how to pan and change speed in iMovie. :man_facepalming:t3:

I do like that they’re moving along with eBusses. I wonder how many will be needed in the fleet for them to get a system like Park City, UT where the busses just pull in and the charging is done on the roof.

If you zoom straight ahead in this shot you can see the overhang above the bus stop.

GoRaleigh unveiled their electric buses in 2019. It’s 2021 and there’s none operating.

Embarrassing.
