Really not getting why they didn’t put the bike lane fully on the inside. It would eliminate that wonky shift and be safer like in the photo. The few I’ve gotten my hands on, if it’s a true cycle track, has been on the inside with a buffer then parking then the road.
I don’t know what is so surprising about a smallish college town implementing bike infrastructure. It would seem to me that it’s much easier to get things like this done in towns with less social, political, and physical complexity. Frankly, I would expect things like this to happen in places like Chapel Hill first.
For real!! The obvious answer is break-away wiring. I’m sure there is a product designed to safely break away under force. Like oh sh*t there’s a fire, drive through those flimsy wires without thinking once about it because it’s an emergency!!
Don’t dare step outside your pod! No thanks, I’ll wait until the insanity is over. Its too stressful for me.
A couple walking towards the restroom was spotted by the group of 4 in the pod to our right, assuming old friends or acquaintances, stopped them to speak with each other. Less than 1 minute later the security officer came waddling over to inform them, in order to speak with each other they needed to step 6 feet over to the empty pod on their left, all wearing masks. My wife and her friends were dancing in an empty pod to the far left near the small lake and greenway trail completely away from anyone or their pod, they were told twice not to step out of the pod, if she asked a third time they would be asked to leave. People were followed and flagged down for not wearing a mask outdoors, when the Governors outdoor mask mandate rules end tomorrow at 5pm. It just gives you an excuse to walk around with a beer the whole time, because you can’t spread covid while drinking a beer.
Meanwhile in Florida last Saturday Night:
Meanwhile MiamiDade County continues to have more than a 1000 new cases daily, and has had 1 in 6 residents recorded as having had the virus, never mind the folks who got it but were never tested, etc., and there are a lot of them! The death rate from covid in MiamiDade County since the outset of the pandemic is 1 in 442 for over 6100 deaths, while Wake County has had a death rate of 1 in 1,553 for a total of 725. In Wake, the recorded total cases is 1 in 12 residents (half that of MiamiDade). So, the proof is in the pudding that being careful and minding protocols does in fact work.
Morrisville maybe getting their first start of a downtown district.
that’s awesome and sorely needed.
Cleveland has a turbine outside the browns stadium which seems like a cool idea Kane could think about in regards to the stadium development in Downtown South.
OKC Bricktown Canal. An artificial canal created to revitalize downtown OKC. This used to be a road.
cool water feature, but at the end of the day, it’s still freaking OKC LOL
my 1st reaction was: the mayor of OKC must have had his honeymoon in San Antonio and thought it was really cool hanha
Everett, WA - bridge crossing railway / road…Inspiration pic for the community dream of a Devereux to Seaboard connection across Capital Boully…
Now, ours wouldn’t look across quite the same ‘body of water’ but, use your imagination…
Section of GA SR 400 with Marta rail in the middle. One of the few areas of Atlanta where they got things right.
There’s also a multi use path to the side stretching from the belt line, through buckhead up to perimeter center
Yep exact same setup as orange line metro rail in suburban Virginia once it goes above ground and runs the median of interstate 66
When I visited Stockholm, I was amazed at how nearly everywhere there’s a major vehicular artery, there’s also a rail, a bike lane and a pedestrian lane. Of course, being a much denser city, it’s easy to see how that works for them. I can’t imagine walking along GA400 as a choice to actually go anywhere.
I think it was more of a “hey we connected buckhead to the belt line” ploy, which by bike it’s only 2 miles
I can see the biking angle for sure as a commuting option.
Hell, it’s faster than 400 during rush hour lol was going to get food yesterday in Druid hills and the DMS sign said 4 miles 22-24 minutes to get from buckhead to midtown
This is pretty cool for young people. The fact that this is in a place like Homestead is encouraging as it’s not a privileged place.
