Oh, I love that “twist” to the story. Their brand is all wrapped up in their name, and losing it would be devastating to it.
I wonder how many people live in their mythical Buckhead city?
The Buckhead in Morgan County has 171 people according to the Census and was founded in 1908 after someone shot a buck and mounted it’s head in public (no seriously).
If the Buckhead neighborhood in Atlanta maintained it’s current neighborhood limits as it’s new city limits, there’d be around 100,000.
With that said though, I have no clue what they really think breaking off would accomplish crime wise. Not sure crime committers are going to cross a mythical line and say “oh well that’s not Atlanta, not going to commit a crime here”. We ALLLL know what this is really about.
The breakawayers think that taking crime enforcement into their own hands, instead of relying on Atlanta, is the answer to their problems.
I agree with you regarding criminals not caring about city limits.
sometimes amenities can be soccer leagues and tennis leagues and the city’s willingness to lease out its infrastructure and maintain those activities. it might be a 4 mile car ride or bicycle ride to participate…but if its not too crazy of a time investment to get there for such things. its not always a sheik bar or a ‘atlas obscura level item’ that creates livability comfort.
does north hills offset that somewhat?
Drive by that exit on the way to the beach a couple times a year, lol. That was my first thought as well.
cmon lets be better than this
what if the person’s name was BLACK
or GAY
would we be making jokes about them being a minority?
This white-bashing woke BS commenting/joking on here gets SO OLD. I say that as a gay person, btw. But jeez this is saddening to keep encountering on here.
From my Atlanta perspective, I do think the whole Buckhead thing is about making sure it stays majority white and to curb out the “Black nonsense” AKA “crime” happening in their eyes, which they think they can stop by being their own city. Again, I’m saying this being from Atlanta and seeing how things work there. The truth is the truth no matter how sad it is or no matter how much we want to avoid it. That’s just the state of things in this country.
Not to make this my soap box, but if we want to talk about all the subtle negative black things I face (not necessarily on here, this seems to mostly be a great group of people) being a young black Engineer with dreads in a majority white space, we’d be here for decades explaining. I’m just saying the white-bashing woke BS is NOTHING compared to what we face on a daily basis. I’ll just leave it at that, because to me, this site has been nothing but a great welcoming place to me since the day I got here!
It’s tongue in cheek and coincidental, though I do a agree with @atl_transplant that there’s likely a racial play to this desire to form a separate city.
If North Hills was selling luxury condos, then perhaps it would help offset, but isn’t everything there rental?
im not informed on data of long term or transient tech employee in downtown or north hills area.
We already have that it’s called Cary.
Just trying to help, because I was super confused having never heard of Muslim-specific bars before; I believe you mean to say “chic” bar!
Though Sheik Bar might be a fun name.
Or a Halloween themed shriek bar…
Lol gotta love voice to text and autocorrect
BTW, I didn’t see a steak dinner delivered to my house tonight. Just sayin.
freudian mishap on my part
Some of y’all’s dreams coming true in Charlotte. A parking garage / car free apartment complex getting built.
Interesting and important tidbit. You’re not allowed to have a car. If you’re caught with a car your lease is broken. Also directly on the Light Rail line.
104 units. I think the key here is the light rail line. I think we should try a similar development here but not sure if it’d do as well until we have a solid transit base.
Also Charlotte is a bit different where it is 100% downtown centered. Here we have multiple employment centers being downtown, NH, RTP, and Durham. Not saying it won’t work here but it’s a little more of an uphill battle than this one.
The f**k?? So you can’t rent a garage-free apartment and just park on the street?
