Hey- this MIGHT just be that!!! I sincerely cannot imagine they wouldn’t also sell some select clothing/accessory items at their FIRST OF ITS KIND Petar Millar coffee shop!!! (not sarcasm despite the intentional misspelling - I’m sure this will essentially be their gift shop with a coffee bar)
I agree. It doesn’t make much sense to only sell coffee.
This is actually part of larger trend of luxury and designer clothing brands opening coffee shops. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EOrkVT3ip0
So apparently the company was founded in Raleigh 25 years ago by Chet, Greg, and Chris. My bad for never hearing of them I suppose. But the name Peter Millar is “from a serendipitous find on a vintage personalized lawn bowling ball.” I learned things today.
How could you forget Chet, Greg, and Chris?
Obviously nobody shops at North Hills. Peter Millar has had a store there for years.
OK I actually love this haha - Chet, Greg, and Chris are alright in my book ![]()
Well, you’re a slob, I’m a douchbag (I do own a Peter Millar shirt, and they used to be a client of mine) and Jake AND GLP are now
@OakCityDylan The GLP one should have a top hat ![]()
Maybe it was harsh, but rubbed me the wrong way calling one of cities most successful businesses “clothes for douchebags”. I don’t even wear Peter Millar but root for them because I have a lot of friends who work there and it’s super cool to have a globally recognized clothing brand born and raised in our backyard.
Me thinks you’re taking that a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle too personally my G. Be like @OakCityDylan and wear it loud and proud
(i.e.: just don’t take me nor yourself so seriously, it was all in jest. I don’t think anyone on here is a douchebag any more than I think anyone on here is a saint. That is to say; I don’t really know enough about anyone on here to make those kinds of personal judgements. It was just a crass generalization that I was making as a goof. AS A GOOF!) I would never in a million years wear khakis and a golf shirt but SURE I’m with you in the sentiment that it IS COOL this major clothing brand started here and is opening a new shop/coffee concept to further tie in their brand with their home city. That is objectively cool, no matter if I like the clothes or not!!! ![]()
I think many (including myself) had no idea this was a Raleigh based company. I knew they were a clothing brand, but had no idea it was a golf thing. So it seemed odd they are opening a coffee shop. But it all makes sense now.
it’s all good my dude
URGENT TOUCH GRASS WARNING ![]()
Please go touch some grass and refrain from posting until vibes improve. Thank you for your attention.
Ah I see. I thought you were sayig it was ridiculous that anyone would not know who Peter Millar is.
This, in a nutshell, is Raleigh’s #1 problem: It’s not branded. That isn’t to say that we need to say that it’s about having brands like Peter Millar. I mean, we already have a Gucci pig and penguin. ![]()
Raleigh doesn’t celebrate itself in the way that Charlotte and Durham do. We are content to have folks discover Raleigh for themselves, and that’s usually fine. However, when it comes to the big stuff like identifying locations for new sports franchises, or impactful & unique development/experiences, it’s one of the things that matters the most.
Celebrating local brands isn’t about being a douche. It’s about telling the world that you too can be creative and successful in this city. It’s about being an incubator for your ideas and dreams. That sort of message is about our energy and vibes, and it’s infectious. This is why individuals, companies, etc. are drawn to places like Austin, Nashville, and San Jose for that matter.
Spot on. I feel this sentimentality is expressed in our state motto “Esse quam videri”, to be rather than to seem. It’s neat that Raleigh embodies this ethos to some degree. Also, shout out Videri Chocolate.
