Smoky Hollow Phases 1, 2, and 3

That’s true, but it’s just a mile west to Harris Teeter and Fresh Market. Isn’t it amazing how putting a bunch of people in an urban neighborhood can support a large scale grocer? This is at the foundation of why I keep encouraging more and more residential downtown. We have a huge opportunity to create more dynamic urban experiences.

This Publix is also the closest location to Garner (not including the one out in JoCo at 42 and 50–not really Garner).

I wonder how many people will drive to this store from Garner vs going to a whole host of other mainline grocery stores? As a downtown resident, I will go to either north Raleigh or Garner for Lidl, but I’d never go to either for a mainline grocery store.

Let’s make sure we don’t put a large development across the street from this over-performing grocery store. Imagine the lines!

We wouldn’t want to hasten another walkable grocer downtown, now would we? Oh the horror!

I like Publix baked goods, so I take a ride up there from my house in Garner which is about 5-6 miles away.

That’s interesting. As someone who bounces back and forth with Miami, I can tell you that the baked goods at that Publix pale in comparison to what I get in Miami. Even like for like baked goods are substantially better in Miami. Then again, there’s a really strong baked goods culture in Miami with all of the Latin American bakeries you find there.

Conversely, I’ll go to Lidl for their fresh baked breads and croissants.

Every plan for this park has excluded the triangular portion of the Capital Blvd right-of-way owned by NCDOT that’s currently grass, circled here:

Does anyone know: (a) if NCDOT has any plans for that dirt and (b) if not, is it for any engineering or regulatory reason that would prevent them from either allowing its use as park extension or selling it for private development?

Seems kinda odd that it would just sit there. I suppose it could be necessary for subjacent support to the Capital bridge but not clear to me why that would prevent any park use.

A good chunk of that triangle is the bridge abutment, its part of the structure of the bridge. It looks like just a grassy hill, but it is an engineered earth structure that likely has soil stabilization and drainage measures under the surface.

Also, there is a transmission pole in there which can be a pain in the butt for development, maybe just not worth the trouble of dealing with right of way and all that fun stuff.

I have always loved this project the apartments above the Publix. It is called something else now not Peace which I thought was a good name.

I’m 100% not on board with the renaming of this resi-development. Peace Apts will live on forever.

I’ve still never been in a Publix in NC. Quite a few in Florida though. I’m either bougie or thrifty when it comes to grocery shopping. Wegmans or the Food Kitty for me haha!

Same, weaver Street, whole foods, or food lion

Never really understood the appeal of Harris teeter or Publix. They are overpriced for the quality of product. Don’t @ me, happy holidays!

Oh my God, the shadows! How can the neighbors stand it!

One acronym: BOGO

It’s the only way I shop Publix. Other than that, it’s Aldi or Lidl for me.

their subs are great as are their cakes if you need one. Yes when something is on sale snap it up for sure there. I shop at Publix, Walmart Neighborhood Market and sometimes the Teeter.
