Smoky Hollow Phases 1, 2, and 3

Perfect for the 1000th post in this thread, too!

And see, they did paint the parking deck lol

Very interesting! I didn’t read all of it, but two things jumped out. “Structured parking” was mentioned several times. I can’t help but wonder what unstructured parking is? A libertarian free for all where you park however you want? lol. Also, the architecture is informed by the neighborhood structures . . . do they mean the neighborhood they tore down? Ha ha, I pick, but you got to love how marketing people phrase things. It looks pretty awesome. Thanks for the share @KenAA

A free for all where the largest car wins, duh. For now. In the future your autonomous flying car will dock to the side of the building like a pod to a spaceship.

And there is no logo on the small two story retail sliver but I see a place for a nice rooftop sitting area!! The parking deck appears to clad in brick if the rendering is true.

Also, one picture shows the current Peace parking deck as concrete and black paint. The next one shows it as wrapped in brick. Is it possible for both to be done, and it’s just from different angles, or is it all nonsense like the 4 different versions of the Origin hotel by One Glenwood (depending on the rendering)?

It looks great but the people in the renderings seem pretty boring compared to the craziness that’s going on in the renderings for the Willard Hotel.

So true. There’s no one doing push ups on the sidewalk or parkour off the walls
 so stodgy!

There was a guy in my neighborhood doing sidewalk pushups the other day. I wanted to take a picture and share it here but figured he was pretty strong and probably wouldn’t be as amused

Just wish that the South side of Phase I had 1st floor retail/restaurant space as well. Would really make more of a complete courtyard space and not just a deadzone.

The roof top screens are going to look bad. It’s a running joke on Austin’s subreddit with how bad their tallest building turned out and they have the same screening on top as well.

To be honest I agree that looks bad but I think it looks better than if they built a solid wall around them. Also since the Kane building is 9 stories it won’t be nearly the eye sore that is

If the Independent’s Architects truly based the crown off of THAT?
I have no words that can be written here on this wonderful site without Leo blocking me from completely from this site

Eh, it’s pulled in enough that it might not be too visible from the ground. But I agree with you; these translucent screen walls don’t really accomplish their purpose, unless the goal is to actually leave the equipment on display like in SOM’s Genome Sciences Building at UNC (they actually used glass for part of it too $$$)

Durham’s One City Center has it too and at certain times of day you see right through it.

Very true - it would be a fair nicer end point.

Genome Sciences Building uses glass because it’s greenhouses on the roof. The only equipment on the roof of GSB are exhaust fans, the remainder of the mechanical is in the basement (and central utility plant).

That makes more sense! Greenhouse in the middle where the glass is; screening of equipment/exhaust on the perimeter.

I was actually walking past it with some colleagues last week and they were commenting on how nice it would be to have the kind of budget to blow through that they could clad the penthouse in glass :joy:

so what’s the “excuse/explanation” for this one?

From the brochure, what happened to the e in smokey?

Maybe they can integrate a changing color LED lighting effect on the penthouse fencing?

Actually I understand it originally didn’t have one and will not now. We have named this topic incorrectly!
