Come on man. Respect their right to speak.

About 50 people standing in support. Opposition starting now.

Seems like this is going to be tight. Got the feeling Council isn’t going to go for it. Hopefully I got the wrong vibe.

No decision. This comes back on Aug 20.

Not great that Kane didn’t have all their ducks in a row. The longer this goes on the worse it is for them I think. Gives Oakwood more time to gin up opposition.

Apparently council didn’t receive the latest list of conditions from Kane’s people so they wanted to revisit this. It really felt like Russ found a reason to delay things and he took it.

What a surprise…

This process is such a joke.

I respect their right, not their message. We aren’t living in a theocracy, and no one is going to make Raleigh a sanctuary city for fetuses in opposition to the Supreme Court. Why is this given equal time to actual issues?

Due process…?

The longer it lingers though the closer the gets to the election. Either a good time to really up pressure on council members to approve this or maybe it could be in Kane’s best interest to wait and see what the council looks like after the election? I wonder if zoning is denied if they have to wait a certain amount of time to revisit a change or if they could just bring it back?

It might actually be better cause the mayor might be back by then who we think might support it.

It the rezoning request fails, can they request again at a later date (change of council body?).

I hope she will be back by then. Looking at this live online, Russ sounds like is he campaigning speach on every reply he has .

He asked if either of the other two developments(Peace and Smokey Hollow) had submitted site plans? How is that possible?
Also I believe I sat in front of a large group that stood in support, might have been y’all.

Thanks so much to all of you who were there and show support. None of us should really be surprised. I’m glad it wasn’t outright voted down and just postponed. While that gives opposition time to build up it also gives support time to build up and maybe the developer more time to get his ducks in a row.

I just don’t understand the affordable housing issue. Right now this site is a gravel lot with zero housing. No matter if Kane builds 12 stories or 40 stories will there be affordable housing but the city only gets $1 million (plus a lot more tax $$$) for affordable housing if the 40 story building is approved.

I wish I could have been there in person but I’ve been watching on TV. Im amazed anything gets done. It seems like the council really likes punting on a lot of issues. Is this how they handle zoning issues in other cities ?

There was a good group of us front left (at least that I saw from the front) that stood. We only had 26 seconds to stand.

What awesome support! I was there in the back and the people for the project definitely out numbered and made more sense than the ones against. Maybe there is hope :slightly_smiling_face:
