Smoky Hollow Phases 1, 2, and 3

NCDOT just posted an alert on their website with regards to the Peace/Capital interchange:

Weekend work on the Capital Boulevard bridges project will require closure of the southbound lanes from Johnson Street to the end of the project from 9 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday.

This closure will allow the contractor to remove the existing concrete in the roadway and replace it with asphalt.

Drivers will be detoured from southbound Capital Boulevard onto Johnson Street, then south onto Harrington Street to Jones Street.

A minor traffic shift, moving drivers to the newly constructed outside lanes of Capital Boulevard, will occur between Tuesday at 9 p.m. and Wednesday at 6 a.m. This shift will allow the contractor to begin construction of the grass median.

I spy a crane!

The temp crane and the possible pad to the right?

Operator’s box (no clue what it’s really called) just showed up. Join my live Facebook feed to keep up to speed! (Jk)

Getting a time lapse of them offloading the OBT (operator box thingy).

Also one of the track deals just showed up!

(clearly I’m not in construction)

EDIT: Taking longer than expected and I have plans that don’t include waiting for them to unload the OBT. Also, I believe the pad pictured above is for this crane to move back and forth on the tracks currently still on the truck beds.

Not gonna lie, I’m pretty jealous you get to look at that all day.

Not all day. I work around the corner at 510 Glenwood when I’m in town. @R-Dub has a better view.

Rumor that NMcF may return from medical leave. We must welcome her sanity back to the Council of No :clap:

@OakCityDylan I’ll be back Wednesday. Can’t wait to see the progress. I’m a geek and have a web cam looking out the window, but it doesn’t record.

So not a tower crane… the disappointment.

For a 9 story steel framed building, I didn’t think it would be.

The 9 story commercial building is likely to be a similar height to Peace phase 1.

Will try to get an aerial shot if they raise the end back up.

Some updates aerial shots. Nothing real special or earth shattering.

They’re all great shots. That 2nd one is a nice view of the Glenwood South skyline. One of the coolest parts of Raleigh for sure.

Awesome shots Dylan.
