State Government

i worked some state jobs in the past. nothing impressive, but ‘millions’ for an education campus’? i recall the old community college building was near the recently destroyed admin bldg. i think admin years back just did billing reports for most of the other agencies of govt except health and human resources. and I thought that often teacher conferences occurred at the outer banks at some location. a central education ‘campus’ is needed why?

Maybe you should email Paul Coble.

YES!! I went to DEQ yesterday and the second base is visible. I didn’t see a third, but was only there for a few minutes to pick up documents.

Are there really no plans, or renderings available on what’s being built? I can see the crane from NH, and if that’s any indication of final height, it looks like it will be pretty prominent in the skyline (at least from this pov).

If you know someone that works in the State Construction Office, they may show you some renderings.

Well, I guess I’ll have to wait and see with my own eyes then..lol

So much for transparency in government, huh?

Not a single drawing or rendering in sight, Captain!

Certainly didn’t see that one coming!
:squinting_face_with_tongue:

As far as I know the only article with a substantive look at the unusual construction management and lack of transparency has been this one: https://amp.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article273097715.html at the N&O. As much as I like to rag on the N&O I thought it was a very good piece that asked the right questions and was sober in its assessment.

I emailed the author (dvaughan@newsobserver.com) to ask if there has been any updates given the advanced stage, but have not heard back. I would encourage others to do the same.

I was being facetious. I know we talked about it, but there it actually is.

Is this a spot for #3?

as someone who has seen many sites with multiple cranes, I think your circled area could be the 3rd crane site.

I may have found the new look of the Education Building with the North Hills behind it.

Down she goes! This is the first major exterior demolition I’ve seen of the Bath Building so far.

As a side note, couldn’t they have placed the no right turn sign on Wilmington like, anywhere else?

Wow I didn’t realize this was happening this soon! While I truly detest buildings like this (not “brutalism” in general, just the ones like this that are essentially windowless, bare-concrete boxes that add nothing to the street experience nor the skyline), I do lament that this will just be another open (and in this immediate area, wasted) space. There’s literally “Freedom Park” across the street - though, I can see if they plan to connect this new green space to F.P. in some fashion - I just still don’t see it as necessary. Hopefully - eventually - this plot will just be redeveloped.
