Tower cranes experience reduced lifting capacity the farther the load is from the mast due to moment forces and structural limits. On a large site, having fewer crane might struggle to efficiently cover the entire area without excessive boom lengths, which would significantly decrease lifting efficiency and increase operational challenges.
By having 3 cranes, the site manager can have strong coverage, minimize load travel distances, and optimize lifting capacity across the site. It also help’s reduce bottlenecks in material movement and improve sequencing in urban projects.
Costly to have 3 cranes, but on a $400M project, it’s a drop in the bucket!
$400 million dollars that is no doubt (at least) partially funded with taxpayer money. Unethical as hell that we still don’t really know what it looks like, is more like it.
So the state could theoretically build anything without regards in how it impacts city services like water, sewer, electric, traffic, environmental impacts, etc? How does that make sense.
They could build a water park (just an off the wall example) that draws 1/2 of a city’s potable water supply, without getting a permit?
In fairness, NCDOT has received solid support for their intercity passenger trains regardless of which party runs the Governor’s office or the General Assembly. Would that support extend to local or regional transit? I doubt it.
They explicitly do not take care of those things because the entrenched Republican Legislature hates transit and refuses to fund it. Other states that function as representative democracies actually use joint state/local resources.
Republicans only came into power in 2010. Pretty much nothing was done by Democrats prior to that either. I have been in the Raleigh area for 33 years and neither party has much of anything to boast about.
I wrote to WRAL today asking for them to do a story on why there is secrecy on the final renderings of the building. Let see if it piques their interest.
That’s very true. So give me some facts on what any state party has done for mass transit in Raleigh/Wake County. Seems like we have a big zero no matter the party.
The bigger divide, over decades, is urban vs rural counties. That is pretty common in a lot of states. Lets dont turn this thread into a pissing match about what party is more worthless.
I would make the argument that our state has grown a lot since the early 2000s tho, and regardless of which party is in power, transit is going to be a factor in keeping our state successful. Since Republicans are in charge right now, I will hold them accountable if they fail to recognize this.
That is fair, and I think it is really short sighted not to support urban transit as the state continues to grow. That was my position in the 80s, and along with my love the Pack and beer, is one of the few constants in my life.
But as it was in the 80s, its a hard sell to folks in Havalock or West Jefferson to support more state money for thriving cities when their areas have needs too.
In North Carolina, the North Carolina Department of Labor, specifically the [Elevator and Amusement Device Bureau], regulates amusement park rides, including water slides exceeding 15 feet.
