I had to go see it for myself on my way home from work. Lots of people and machinery on site.
That was a crane pad prep in the picture apparently.
Here’s the crane base!!! Pic by @oakcitydylanDad (not a real account) in a drive by.
I had no idea there was a phase 2 or potential for expansion at the 3-story building at Oberlin & Van Dyke. Kinda makes sense now with the giant blank wall there though.
Better with the addition, but damn what an UGLY ASS BUILDING that currently stands …
I just bought tix for Anthony Jeselnik at Goodnights in January; doubt they’ll have the new spot open by then but damn I hope so. Mostly I was just blown away that I’ll be able to see him perform at a smaller comedy club, he’s big enough to play big theaters these days… he must be prepping for a new special to be hitting the clubs
Long story short, we are, and have been, so fortunate to have a legit comedy club in Goodnights here. While I’ll forever miss the old location, pretty damn cool to have an UNDERGROUND comedy club soon.
Not worth the cost. Can make it much better at home. Happy it’s coming though for those that can piss away money. Will be a big Uber eats order source.
Even if I want someone else to make my burger, Char Grill is just better. Shake Shack is wildly overrated.
You’re right that it’s going to print money in that location, though.
Anthony Jeselnik one weekend, Dave Attell the next. Loving the lineup.
Yeah you can get really creative with those bubba burgers, and get about 12 Pattie’s for the price of that meal.then you you can jazz those bad boys up real good. I bet a lot of people on here have some awesome custom burger versions. Yum Yum!
That crane base has been sitting there for a few weeks. Been wondering when the rest was going to come.
Oh yeah. I posted that Oct 1.
Haha I’ve accidentally done the same thing too
Nice to see this one moving along! Looks more typical than the previous iterations (less green color now).
I’m a bit confused. Are there two condo projects going up side by side on Enterprise St.?
Now THIS building('s render…) is ATTRACTIVE. Why can’t this one start first, instead??
I also don’t disagree with your assessment that this will start to “blur the lines between The Village district and NCSU district” … but it doesn’t necessarily “connect” the two districts in the way I’d like to see, with more retail/street level activation. Doesn’t appear that either of these condo projects include anything on the ground floor. I get it, they’re condos, so the focus is on quality housing that people will be lining up to purchase, and perhaps the possibility of a bar or pizza joint below the condos might reduce some of the desirability… but it still kinda just continues this street as a deadzone. Can’t really say much about the potential for more foot traffic when the only places for that foot traffic to go is a ways away in either direction. Would really love to see more ground floor activation in the Village district, in general. These two, plus that new apartment building going up soon next to the library will have completely dead sidewalks, rather than taking the opportunity to extend the walkability/footprint of the Village district at-large. Not to mention that two-story brick office building on Oberlin that has recently been demolished to build a… wait for it… single story bank branch with drive-thru tellers (no, not the recently completed Chase branch on Oberlin… an even newer forthcoming single-story bank branch
)
